Yes, I know it’s weird to have a picture of a Jimny and a sports car together. But hear me out.
I have now owned the Jimny for 8 months and as someone who has owned nothing but fast performance cars up until now, the Jimny has been a radical departure from anything I’ve owned or driven before. I’ve often been criticised by petrolhead friends who still drive fast cars for driving a car that is small, impractical and uncomfortably firm. They tease me about the Jimny a lot. They just don’t understand it the way Jimny drivers do. Let me put it into perspective.
If you think about it, the Jimny has a lot in common with one of the most highly respected performance cars: the Lotus Exige. They’re both small and nimble, both have two doors with next to no storage space, they’re both firm and uncomfortable and in a weird way, the Jimny is also kind of exotic (I justify that reasoning by how few of them there are on the road, how ridiculous their prices are on the 2nd hand market and how long the waiting list is for a new one). The only difference is the Exige is fast and really good on road and the Jimny is slow but fantastic off-road.
So I’ve decided. I do not drive a slow, small off-roader. I drive an exotic off-roading sports car. It’s a far better description of the Jimny’s personality.
