Your role, no, your responsibility as a coach/educator at any level, is to realise and accept that your players will want to mold their lives to either be like you or to be nothing like you.

Many of us work with players who come from dark atrocious situations, where there isnt a father and/or a mother figure who instills values, confidence or morals.

They look to you to know how to handle adversity, pain and frustration. Many of these kids cannot find themselves to trust anyone not even mentioning loving themselves.

Sport for them is not just about the game, sport and practice might be the only place where they are safe, where they have someone looking out for them.

We as coaches have the responsibility to know each players' situation and mental state. You have the power to literally change lives.

Open your eyes, its more than just a game.

There's a reason cliché's exist. A TEAM of people working together in the same direction is more effective than a group of individuals working on their own.

Yes, hard work is absolutely necessary and focusing on individual performances adds to the result, however each individual needs to work hard with the TEAM goals and ethos in mind all the time.
