Today is World Drowning Prevention Day 🌊💙

I’m wearing blue as a global reminder that drowning is preventable—and that education saves lives.

The global statistics are heartbreaking:

🔹 Over 2.5 million preventable deaths due to drowning in the past decade
🔹 That’s 650 lives lost every day, 26 every hour—a silent epidemic
🔹 Drowning is among the top 10 causes of death for children and youth (ages 1–24) in every region of the world

Every drowning leaves a ripple of heartbreak. But we can and must act. We’re teaching vital Aquatic Survival Skills to children, giving them the tools to survive and thrive in and around water.

💧 You can help.

We’re asking our community to support free water safety programs in primary schools across the Bay of Plenty.

Let’s make a wave of change.

Aquatic Survival Starts With You.

We’re going blue for World Drowning Prevention Day!

This Friday, 25 July, is World Drowning Prevention Day, and we're helping raise awareness for aquatic safety education right here in the Bay of Plenty.

You can participate too!!

By wearing blue on Friday, you’re helping highlight the importance of aquatic survival skills, because every child deserves the chance to learn how to stay safer in and around water and aquatic survival starts with you!
