There are 20 distinct amino acids constituting the myriad proteins within the human body. Nine of these, known as essential amino acids, are unable to be synthesized by the body and therefore must be obtained through dietary sources.

Of these critical nine amino acids, three are categorized as branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs): leucine, isoleucine, and valine. The term "branched-chain" pertains to the molecular structure of BCAAs, commonly found abundantly in protein-rich foods like eggs, meat, and dairy products. Additionally, BCAAs are frequently marketed as a dietary supplement, predominantly available in powder form.
