Morning everyone,

Just a heads up that the initiation ceremonies are currently taking place in parts of our riding area and will likely continue until around 25 July 2026.

Please try to avoid these areas for the next few weeks and be respectful if you come across any of the participants or organisers.

The affected areas are mainly the riverbed adjacent to the Butterfly Sanctuary, heading down towards the old school and eventually coming out on the Heidelberg/Balfour tar road. They are also using areas near the gullies around Captains, Zig-Zag and Riaan's, as well as some of the open areas and jeep tracks below.

If you're unsure whether you're entering one of these areas, rather turn around and find an alternative route.

We've always had a good relationship with the local communities and landowners, and I'd like to keep it that way.

I have highlighted the area in red

Thanks for your cooperation.

**Tribute to Brian “Badger” Bader**

Today we remember Brian Bader — a good friend, a riding mate, an adventurer, and a man we all fondly knew as **Badger**.

And what a fitting name it was.

Brian was one of the toughest people I have ever known ,if not the toughest. A tough Australian who found a home here in South Africa, he lived life with grit, humour, courage, and a deep love for adventure. He was the kind of man who did not just talk about living fully ,he went out and did it.

When we look at these photos, we see Brian exactly as we remember him, helmet on, boots muddy, bike beneath him, surrounded by friends, always ready for the next ride and the next story.

We see him out on the dirt roads, on the adventure bike, with the open fields and big skies around him. That was Badger in his element , moving forward, taking on whatever the road gave him, and doing it with that unmistakable toughness.

We see him around the table after a ride, sharing a drink, sharing a laugh, and being part of the brotherhood that comes from long days on bikes and dusty roads.

We see him standing with riding mates, proud and strong, the bikes behind him, the mud still on the boots, and the memories already being made.

We see him in the rocks, deep in the hard stuff, where most people would wonder what they had got themselves into ,but where Brian simply got on with it. Enduro riding suited him because it demanded grit, and grit was something he had in abundance.

We see the smile too. That big, mischievous, unforgettable smile. Whether he was soaked in a river, covered in mud, sitting beside a braai, or resting after another hard day, there was always that sense that he had another story ready to tell.

Some of my fondest memories of Brian are from the saddle of adventure bikes and enduro bikes. Dirt roads, rocky climbs, river crossings, mud, dust, broken trails, sore bodies, laughter, and the kind of days that become stories for life , that was where Badger belonged.

I will never forget the times we sat around a braai, listening to him tell stories of his travels through Europe and Africa, eventually making his way to South Africa on a BMW GS Adventure bike. We listened in awe. He had seen places, faced challenges, and lived adventures most people only dream about.

One memory that will always stay with me is riding in Heidelberg and watching him take a fall that would have kept most of us down. Most people would not have got up from that. But Brian simply dusted himself off, gathered his wits, and went at it again ,almost as if he had forgotten he had just fallen eight metres.

That was Brian.

That was Badger.

These photos are more than pictures. They are pieces of a life lived boldly. They remind us of the rides, the laughs, the fireside stories, the friendships, the dust, the mud, the water crossings, the scars, and the adventures.

Brian leaves behind great memories, great stories, and a legacy of courage, friendship, and adventure. He was a man who lived hard, rode hard, laughed often, and left his mark on everyone lucky enough to know him.

Rest in peace, Badger.

Your namesake was more than appropriate.

You were tough, you were unforgettable, and you will be missed.

Good day everyone,

Please take note of these new **Butterfly Sanctuary NO ENTRY stickers** that have now been installed.

👉 If you see these stickers, do NOT continue past them, as you will be entering the protected Butterfly Sanctuary / nature reserve area.

These areas are environmentally sensitive and are the subject of ongoing discussions with SANParks and the sanctuary management.

We ask everyone to please respect the stickers and remain on the approved riding routes.

Your cooperation is appreciated and will help keep the remaining riding areas open for everyone.

Thank you.

Just to let you all know, we sadly had to put Sprocket down and lay him to rest.

Sprocket was not just a mascot to us all , he was dearly loved and captured all of our hearts.

RIP Sprocket, you are going to be dearly missed.

I still recall how he used to lead the 4x4 groups around, and if they turned off his chosen path, he would stop and look back as if to say, “Really?”

The same on his walks with Meloney forever protecting, chasing cattle, goats, jackals, you name it… he had absolutely no fear.

Igor can also tell you stories from when he stayed over to set courses. Sprocket knew every nook and cranny of the farm.

I remember the times he had to be taken to the vet to remove porcupine quills from his mouth. No matter what, he never backed down.

He also knew exactly how to turn on those sorrowful eyes to get himself a snack, and many will remember how he stole Naughty Ian’s droëwors out of his van!

Sprocket was brave, mischievous, stubborn at times, but also incredibly loving.

Sprocket was not just a dog , he was a legend, and he will remain forever in our hearts.
