I recently had the privilege of hosting a family on a charter, and what an incredible experience it turned out to be. Together, we landed some truly beautiful Vaal River specimens, with an amazing 12 personal bests achieved over the session.
I’m genuinely grateful for the opportunity to share moments like these — it’s what makes this journey so special.
A big thank you to Specimen SA and Signature Series for their top-quality products that continue to deliver.
Interestingly, our biggest fish — and the highest number of catches — came from our particle mix that I used as hook bait. Sometimes, keeping it simple really does produce the best results.

It’s always a challenge to charter someone who has never caught fish before — but at the same time, incredibly rewarding to share that first experience with them.
The plan for the day was simple: target barber, carp and yellowfish… and we were blessed to land all three.
The Specimen SA pop-ups did the damage, dipped between DKW and my go-to favourite, Top Tjop Pineapple.
At the end of the day, nothing catches more fish than confidence.

Great to be back on the water, even though conditions were tough. With carp spawning and temperatures pushing 36°C, I had to adjust my approach. Downsizing paid off — the 12mm Tropical Punch did the trick and I managed to land three carp. Once again, it proves that nothing catches more fish than confidence.

“What a 24-hour session we had — it had everything! I even forgot my rods at home (big thanks to Mias for helping me out). We caught plenty of fish and managed to land my son his PB. The BG pop-up did the trick once again. Most of all, it was a privilege to spend time in nature with my son, teaching him how to fold up a sleeping bag and making memories that are truly priceless.”
