On Sunday, Qwa Qwa CC travelled to Harrismith to take on the Pluckers XI at the Platberg Oval. After a week of heavy rain, it looked like the match might not take place, but fortunately, the sun came out on Sunday morning, giving us a good day for cricket. With the outfield still slightly wet, the start was delayed by 30 minutes.🌤️
Pluckers XI won the toss and elected to bat first.
The innings got off to a fantastic start, with Willem Brits and captain Francois Steenkamp putting together a solid opening partnership of 90 runs in the first 14 overs. Willem Brits batted brilliantly, bringing up his first half-century of the season with an impressive 51 off 49 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six.💥👏
After the breakthrough, Hugo Beuken (34 off 38) and Gawie Petersen (41 off 66) kept the momentum going, building a valuable 66-run partnership. Helgard du Preez then stepped up in style, scoring his maiden half-century for the club. He showed great composure at the crease, timing the ball beautifully and keeping the scoreboard ticking, finishing on 51 off 63 balls with 9 fours.🔥👏
Useful contributions from Collin R***r (16 off 16) and a quick-fire finish by Innes Joubert🚀 (12* off 5 balls, including 2 sixes) pushed the Pluckers XI to a commanding total of 298/9 in their 50 overs.🙌
Qwa Qwa CC had a big task ahead, but their innings got off to the worst possible start. Willem Brits struck early, picking up a wicket with the 5th ball of the innings thanks to a sharp catch by Sean Govender at short cover. Brits continued his excellent form with the ball, finishing with outstanding figures of 3/22 in 6 overs, removing the top three batsmen.🎯
Moqedi Lekota (35 off 41) and Lebohang Sechele (40 off 39) fought back well, putting together a solid 60-run partnership and showing good intent at the crease.👏
Hugo Beuken bowled brilliantly, ending with 1/22 in 6 overs, while Gawie Petersen also chipped in with a wicket.👊
Unfortunately, at the end of the 24th over, lightning and thunder moved into the area, forcing the players off the field. After a lengthy delay, rain began to fall, and following discussions between the umpires and both captains, the match was called.⚡ 🌦️
