GREYTON GEES!! GREAT SUCCESS!!
The announcement was made late yesterday afternoon that
GREYTON
is the winner of two awards following the recent Absa Cape Epic.
The village won both the
Best Fly Over Award and the Best Town Spirit Award.
Making the announcement, the Epic's Marc Erasmus said: "Greyton took a landscape photo by a local artist (that's Adèle Claudia Fouché folks) and “painted” it onto a rugby field using a variety of colours, textures and materials. The riders actually rode through the fly over thus forming part of the design. A really impressive and collaborative effort from the entire town."
Announcing the Best Town Spirit Award, Marc said: "This was always going to be a very tough and closely fought affair and was, from the outset a two-horse race, with the 2012 “defending champs” McGregor coming up against the 2009 contenders Greyton ... both towns really put in an amazing effort. Greyton played host town on the Wednesday and Thursday and it really did seem like the entire town was involved in either dressing up (Searle’s wait staff), vending at the market or shouting from the side lines. Restaurants put on special menus and were sold out often taking two or more sittings to deal with the demand. The decision was not an easy one but after much group discussion and listening to feedback from numerous sources the first time winners of the “Best Town Spirit” award has been won by Greyton! A clean sweep of the two town involvement awards and really a massive thank you to Greyton for going the extra mile to making this event the success that it was."
Thank you to every single Greytonian who worked so hard to make this possible.
