The George Badminton Club buzzed with excitement this weekend as it hosted the highly anticipated Eden Badminton Federation Social Day on 25 May 2024 at the St Peter and Paul Catholic Church Hall. A total of 28 players, ranging in age from 11 to well into their 70's, gathered for a day filled with fun, friendly competition, and community spirit.
Participants were randomly paired up in diverse teams, ensuring a blend of experience and youthful energy on the courts. The event was a testament to the inclusive nature of badminton, bringing together enthusiasts from different generations to share their love for the sport.
The atmosphere was electric as players from 4 of the 5 official Edin Badminton Federation Clubs showcased their skills, rallied together, and celebrated each point. The Social Day was not just about winning but about fostering camaraderie and promoting a healthy, active lifestyle.
Special thanks to Arthur Strydom who added to the atmosphere by entertaining the waiting players with music from days gone by.
As the final shuttlecock was smashed, the participants reflected on a day well spent. The event concluded with a small ceremony, where everyone was recognized for their participation, reinforcing the community's spirit.
The winners of the day were:
1st Prize Lourens Schlebusch (George) and Ryan Oosthuizen (Plett)
2nd Prize went to Shade (Stilbaai) and AJ (Mosselbaai)
3rd Prize was awarded to David (Plett) and his team mate Josh (Plett)
The Eden Badminton Federation looks forward to organizing more such events, continuing to promote badminton as a sport for all ages.
