ONLINE COACHING — DISTANCE DOESN’T HAVE TO BE A DISADVANTAGE ⛳️

Online coaching has opened the door to working with golfers anywhere — and there is no better way to explain what that journey can look like than hearing it directly from one of my students.

After a year and a half of working together online, this is what Pieter Terblanche had to say:

“Dear SM,

I just wanted to write you a little something to say thank you for everything you helped me with in the past year and a half!

Looking back, it’s honestly crazy how much we’ve done through a screen! You’re in George, I’m in Vryburg, and somehow you’ve managed to make online coaching work way better than I could ever dream of. If anything, it proves that you don’t need to be standing next to someone on the range to help them improve — although I’m sure you’d still prefer to be there to see all of my flushed shots in person! 😂

Working with you has been such a great experience. You’ve helped me improve my game, understand my swing better, and most importantly, enjoy the process. I really appreciate how patient you are, even when I’m making the same mistake for the 47th time and wondering why the ball isn’t doing what I want it to do.

The online lessons have also been ridiculously convenient. I can be sitting in Vryburg while you’re in George, and within minutes we’re working on my swing. It makes coaching so much easier, and I honestly don’t feel like the distance between us is a disadvantage at all.

But more than just being a good coach, you’ve been someone I’ve really enjoyed working with. You’re easy to talk to, you’re encouraging, and you always seem to know how to explain things in a way that makes sense. You’ve definitely made me a better golfer, but more importantly, you’ve made me enjoy the journey!

So, thank you for all the time, effort, advice and patience you’ve given me over the past year and a half! I’m really grateful that I started working with you, and I’m excited to see how our future looks like in the game of golf⛳️

Fantastic week for Ben van Wyk on the Sunshine Tour! ⛳️🔥

Ben put together three strong rounds at the FNB Eswatini Challenge, finishing T8 on -13

🔥 Back-to-back 67s to finish the tournament
🔥 Round 2 – bogey-free 67
🔥 Final round 67 (-5) with 8 birdies

Some serious good golf and scoring over the last two rounds!

Really proud of the way Ben competed this week. The hard work continues, but performances like this show exactly what we’re building towards.

What a privilege this past week has been. ⛳️

I had the opportunity to walk alongside my students at both the Cape Province Open and the Southern Cape stroke play championship — It reminded me just how valuable it is as a coach to watch your students compete.

Every day I try to teach my students new skills, help them understand their games better and prepare them for tournament golf.

But this week, I had the opportunity to learn from them.

I saw the mistakes.
I saw the routines.
I saw the skills.
I saw the pressure.
And I saw some fantastic golf shots!

To have the opportunity to watch your students play, compete, make decisions and deal with the pressures of tournament golf is priceless.

A few special mentions:

⛳ CJ van Wyk — runner-up at the Cape Province Open after losing in a playoff. Super proud of you, CJ. Another fantastic performance and plenty more to come.

⛳ Keagan Eveleigh — proving to himself what lies ahead and just how well he can perform when the pressure is on. A massive step forward.

⛳ Gustav Viljoen — showing some serious signs of scoring and really good golf.

Of course to the rest of BDGA George students, I am very proud of each and everyone of you!

I went into these tournaments hoping to help my students grow, but I walked away having grown as a coach myself.

I am a coach who strives to keep learning. This week I gained knowledge, experience and a better understanding of my students and their games.

After these two tournaments, I can say with a big smile:

I am a better coach than I was before!

And for that, I have my students to thank. 💚⛳️

What stands out most isn’t just the consistency in your scores or the improvements in your swing—it’s the consistency in your mindset. The commitment, patience, and willingness to keep learning are what continue to move you forward.

It’s been great to see your progress, and we’re excited for the next few days of building and preparation before the next tournament.
