The young Cape Fox is doing really well. Normally Cape Foxes find their own foraging area after maturing. But this little one just can't leave mum 🤣 the dunes are huge and big enough for them both. Every night they are out foraging, but most of the time separate when active on the dunes. So far I've learnt that most of their prey are insects hiding under the sand. They use their huge ears to hear minute noises or vibrations under the surface. Other evidence is that they hunt Golden Moles and even Snakes 😍 This ecosystem is just so healthy, especially after the tough 6 months we have had with fires, huge storms and floods.

Wow!! The juvenile Cape Fox looks to have fine-tuned it's skills! Look at those ears work!

Their ears are adept at picking up high-frequency sounds, allowing them to detect small prey moving in the brush or underground. The ears can rotate, tilt, raise, and lower independently to pinpoint sound direction.

After an unusual cool and wet February, we entered Autumn. This week has been tough with record breaking temperatures 🥵 fortunately there then was no option but to do 7am tours 🤩 Done by 9am and then stayed inside until 4pm 😅

Yesterday, it was 31c at 7am but still manageable with the low sun. One of the bikes broke and I had to run with it for the tour which was tough! But what doesnt kill me, makes me stronger 💪🏻😅. A week's worth of cardio in one morning 🤣 When we got to the beach we were welcomed by icy cool waves to cool us down. Sunset was incredible too with calm winds and incredible light 🤩 The hottest week of the summer (in Autumn 😅)

What a lucky grandson, a very special trip to South Africa with Grandma and Grandpa 🤩 A trip he will never forget. As we left, he came up to me and said "Verabschiedung" goodbye. As I drove away he was locked in, not loosing eye contact, smiling and waving. That smile just made my day, my heart is warmed 🥰 Another life-long memory delivered with a laugh and a smile 😊❤️
