SABAA Junior Development 2015/2016
This program was started 3 years ago when Barry Grove was appointed as SABAA Junior National President. Barry and his team (named at the end) have undoubtedly taken the juniors to another level. This year we have a rare achievement - a current junior, Gareth Potgieter from KZN, will be fishing in the Senior Nationals at Tzaneen in September. Adding to this we have a junior from last year, Marco Silva from Northern Division who will also be attending the Senior Nationals. Well done to both of you, now go and make all the juniors and SABAA proud.
It is very clear that with dedication and passion, individuals can make a difference. SABAA and their Partners understand that this is the key area of focus in order to grow the sport and take it to even higher levels of excellence. Special thanks must go to all our Partners, for without them none of this would be possible.
Through our generous Partners the junior budget has increased this year from R 30,000.00 to R 350,000.00.
The vision going forward is to take the juniors and start the development program from a younger age. They will be taught all the basic skills that are needed to fish competitively at Junior Divisional level. We then plan to assist and encourage the older juniors that have the necessary skills and ability, to start fishing in the Premier League with the Senior anglers. By easing them into the Senior League we believe that the sport will retain a higher percentage of the Juniors that have been historically lost after leaving School.
How Do Juniors Get Involved?
It’s very simple, Become a member of a SABAA affiliated Bass club. Club participation is extremely important as it the ideal place to acquire many of the basic skills that juniors need. In order to join a club and get involved, please contact a Divisional Junior Executive in your area.
