Starting in the chilly waters of Cape Town, you will have the chance to dive with perhaps the most fearsome predator of the sea, the infamous Great Whites. Other dives will also introduce you to the prehistoric Seven Gill Cow Shark, Oceanic Whitetip, Mako and the Blue Shark. Moving on to the warmer waters of the world famous Aliwal Shoal, there is an abundance of marine life. Dive with Tiger sharks, Bull sharks, Ragged Toothed sharks, Dusky sharks, Bronze Whalers, Blacktip Sharks, and Guitar sharks, to name just a few! Next, you can add an additional adventure in Mozambique to dive with Whale Sharks of up to 12m; the biggest sharks on earth. You are also likely to encounter majestic mantas and humpback whales. You can also witness one of the greatest natural phenomena on earth; the Sardine Run (May to July). The spectacle of the sardines migrating up the east coast of South Africa is the oceanic/marine equivalent of the magnificent wildebeest migration. Ragged-tooth sharks have a gestation period of 9-12 months following a two-year breeding cycle. We are now at the tail-end of the season and we have seen some really large females which we assume are getting ready to give birth. We encountered this female amongst 4 others on today's UVC and she looked really chunky! It is amazing to watch them transform in size during their pregnancies! By lying on the sand calmly, we were able to have a fantastic encounter and she slowly glided past us showing off her belly.
