I have used synthetic materials for handles, but prefer natural materials.

The customer will have an idea and a picture of the knife he or she wants. You must deliver that to their satisfaction and it must be a functional product of high quality and standard of work. You are putting your name on the product so only the best will do.

I have always enjoyed working with my hands, that said. Jack Connan posted a beautiful blade he made. It was stunning and peaked my interest into making knives myself. (Now I can do woodwork and steel work combined๐Ÿ˜)

When making a knife for a customer, you need to find out the intended use of the knife and start working from there. Quality and workmanship go a long way as well.

a. Steels: I prefer working with Stainless steels. These are N690, 12C27, Lohmann LO-R 4528. 1070 is the only carbon steel that I really use.
b. Handle materials: I prefer working with natural materials such as hard woods, burls and bone. I also enjoy working with synthetics such as Micarta and G10.
