🚨 Could you save a life? 🚨
As swim coaches, we spend a lot of time teaching children how to be safe and confident in the water. But water safety doesn't end when swimming lessons are over.
Knowing CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is one of the most valuable life skills anyone can learn. In an emergency, the first few minutes can make all the difference while waiting for medical professionals to arrive.
💙 For children, CPR involves:
✅ Calling for help immediately.
✅ Giving 30 chest compressions at the correct depth and rate.
✅ Provide 2 rescue breaths.
✅ Continuing until emergency services arrive or the child starts responding.
💙 For adults, the basic principles are the same:
✔️ Call emergency services.
✔️ Begin firm, 30 fast chest compressions in the centre of the chest-use both hands.
✔️ Add 2 rescue breaths.
✔️ Continue until help arrives or an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is available.
🎥 Today's video demonstrates CPR on a child. Although the technique and compression depth differ slightly for adults, the most important takeaway is this:
Doing something is almost always better than doing nothing.
The confidence to act in those critical moments could mean the difference between life and death.
At Xcel Swim Academy, we believe that swimming saves lives—but so does being prepared. We encourage every parent, caregiver and coach to consider completing a certified First Aid and CPR course. You never know when these skills may be needed.
❤️ Have you ever attended a CPR course? We'd love to hear about your experience in the comments.
