To the sports parent always thinking about whether or not you're doing any of this right...
If you’re worrying about whether or not you’re saying the right thing in the tough moments...
If you replay what you said on the ride home and are worried you said too much or not enough...
If you wonder whether you're unintentionally putting too much pressure on them or not stretching them outside of their comfort zone enough...
If you aren't sure if you helped them handle that adversity moment the right way...
Let me remind you of this:
That awareness alone?
That matters.
It means you care.
It means you're paying attention.
It means you're trying to be intentional and not let your ego always lead the way.
Our youth athletes don't need perfect parents with perfect reactions and perfect motivational-quote-worthy words.
They need consistency.
They need a safe place to land.
They need to know that their worth is tied to more than outcomes.
They need to know you're simply ... there.
So if you're showing up?
If you care about how your actions are impacting your athlete?
If you're willing to try and misstep ... and then take the steps to make it right?
You’re probably doing a lot better than your inner critic wants you to believe.
Keep doing what you're doing.
Your athlete is lucky to have you.

To the moms on kids’ sports teams… thank you.

Thank you for cheering for my child like they matter too.
For yelling their name from the sidelines.
For bringing snacks and treats for the whole team.
For planning team dinners, bonding nights, carpools, and little moments that turn teammates into family.
Thank you for the group chats that somehow keep all of us functioning. 😂
For the directions to fields none of us can ever find.
For the last minute schedule changes and reminders.
For the “what color jersey are we wearing?” answers.
And for the random pictures and videos you catch of my kid during games when I missed the moment myself.
Those little things truly mean more than you probably realize.
The kids hear you.
They notice when someone besides their own parents believes in them.
And that kind of support gives kids confidence in ways that are hard to explain.
There is something so powerful about a child feeling seen, encouraged, and valued by the village around them.
And honestly… that’s priceless

Every sporting parent knows a family who quietly disappeared mid - season.

No announcement. No drama. They just... stopped showing up.

And when you finally asked - they said:
"My child didn't lose her love for the game. But her soul got tired of fighting through the adults around it."
Not the umpires. Not the losses. Not the early mornings or the long drives.
The adults.

Think about that for a second.
Your child is watching how you handle a bad call. How you talk about the coach on the way home. How you text in that group chat at midnight. How you treat the parent on the other team.

They are learning what adults do when things don't go their way.

Make sure what they are learning is something worth keeping. 🧡

The hardest part about mental blocks is that they often do not make logical sense.

Athletes can do a skill successfully over and over again and still suddenly feel stuck one day.
That is what makes fear so frustrating.

Parents, coaches, and even the athletes themselves try to find a clear reason for why it is happening.
But sometimes there is not one.
The brain simply stops feeling safe.

And when athletes start asking themselves “Why can’t I do this anymore?” it can quickly turn into shame, frustration, and self-doubt.

That is why forcing athletes through fear usually does not help.
What actually helps is patience, communication, and rebuilding trust one step at a time.
Going back to the basics is not failure.

It is part of the process.

Are Our Children Being Coached by the Right People?

Would you take your sick child to a café owner for treatment? Or let them fly with an unqualified pilot? Of course not — we demand qualified professionals when it matters.

So why do we accept unqualified sports coaches for our children?

Early sporting experiences shape habits, technique, and a love of the game for life. A qualified coach brings the right skills, passion, and knowledge of child development to give every child the best possible start.

Our children deserve nothing less on the pitch than they do in the classroom.

When we entrust our children to a coach, we’re not just shaping athletes — we’re shaping people. Qualified coaching isn’t a luxury; it’s a responsibility.
