# # EVENT CANCELLED - Sunday 14June # #

Hey MyGibaRunners - sorry for the late notice, but apparently a nasty person has blocked our routes to the waterfall area with barbed wire, so we, unfortunately, have to cancel this Sunday’s event 😢

Hopefully this lousy situation will be resolved during the course of the next week - perhaps with some route changes - but I will post an update as soon as the owners provide me with the relevant details. 🙏

Until then, stay fit, stay healthy and, above all, stay positive.

Good Sunday afternoon, MyGibaRunners.🙏 Welcome to the photo album of the 130th MyGibaRun event. 📸

Today we had 23 happy, smiling faces who enjoyed the beautiful winter weather at Giba Gorge MTB Park - and a few cool cyclists, including young Cameron from The IRON Movement Winston Park - along with Mel (from the same crew), who was a surprise late starter.🥳

Due to the small official numbers, I’ve included most of the photos taken that were good enough to share, including a crazy cycle wheelie sequence and a few more scenic photos that show off some of the beauty of this wonderful venue.

On a personal note, I was comfortable completing most of the 5,8km route, and offer my thanks to Crawford Reid for keeping me company for a few km - and for patiently allowing me to chatter-away, uninterrupted, for most of the time 😜🙏.

Hopefully this week won’t be as eventful for me as last week was, and I’ll try to post my usual update for our next event a bit earlier.😇

Hey MyGibaRunners - sorry for the late notice, but health issues had me otherwise indisposed 😢🙏

The weather’s looking good for a wonderful MyGibaRun #130 tomorrow morning, so please try to join us. I’m not sure how much of the trails I will be able to cover, given my current condition, but I’m going to try my best to take some cool photos all over the place 📸😇👍

Good Sunday afternoon MyGibaRunners.🙏 Welcome to the album from this morning’s 129th MyGibaRun event.📸

Firstly - thanks to everyone for the wonderful welcome my babe Rose and I received this morning, and for the numerous well-wishes with regards to my recent bout of Bronchopneumonia.🙏 It might still be a lengthy recovery period, because I felt quite drained after my short walk to & from the start/finish and the drive back home.🥵

My apologies for not giving anyone fair warning about the change to our route, but Senzo made the changes during the week and I only found out about it this morning.🙏 By all accounts, those who adapted to the changes, enjoyed it. I must just add that everyone must be VERY CAREFUL on the last section - the Nursery trail - because it is also used by cyclists early mornings, and they tend to come up rather quickly behind runners/walkers in this section. We must ALWAYS try to give way to them as it’s a narrow trail. 👍

Today we had 23 participants and, whilst Rose recorded the action with her Nikon as usual, I simply sat at the table, enjoyed my music, my coffee with a banana “muffin”, and took a few cellphone photos and videos - including a few closeups of an inquisitive bee 🐝📸😇.

You will see from the videos that Rose was obviously very happy to be back at Giba - as was I, but I was a little more subdued.😜

Hey MyGibaRunners, it’s almost the end of yet another week, AND another month. . . And we’re entering the midway point of 2026.🥳

Looking at the weather forecast for Sunday, it’s hard to believe that we’re virtually in the middle of winter, but such is the beautiful climate of our beloved KZN, that the seasons are all suited to outdoor activities, with only a few uncomfortably chilly days when we are advised to take a break.😜

Unfortunately my recovery from my unfortunate bout of pneumonia is going rather slowly, so I’m not sure if I will feel well/strong enough to join everyone at MyGibaRun this Sunday, but I’ll have to make that decision on Sunday morning.👍

Fortunately, our faithful young volunteer, Abo, should, once again, be on hand to manage the start/ finish and the important Roster. BTW - we had 15 participants last Sunday, and, hopefully, this number will increase on 31st May.🙏

Thank you for the numerous well-wishes that I have received - you’re all very kind, and much appreciated.🙏🤗

Hey MyGibaRunners - it’s midweek and, for once, my midweek update is actually. . . Midweek 😜

As you can see from the screenshot of Sunday’s weather forecast, we appear to be heading for another, almost perfect, winter’s morning, and so, our MyGibaRun Event #128 should be another wonderful outing.🥳

On a personal note - with regards to my Shingles and lung infection, firstly, I’m pleased to say that the symptoms and discomfort I experienced with Shingles is virtually gone - just a tiny bit of numbness that should take a while to normalise. With regards to the lung infection - well, the X-rays I had done yesterday show that they are clear, and a visit to a Pulmonologist this afternoon not only confirmed this, but when she read the original report, she told me that I definitely had Pneumonia, and should NOT have exercised for at least 6 weeks. Unusual not to have had symptoms or felt ill - but I later realised that the Pneumococcal vaccination that I had 12 years ago, and staying quite fit, probably helped a lot.🥳 So - whilst we will be at Giba on Sunday, I am under strict instructions to exercise VERY LIGHTLY for at least 2-4 weeks, and will have to avoid as many hills as possible - and probably only do a shorter than usual walk. Hopefully I’ll still get some trail photos📸🙏.

Good Sunday evening, MyGibaRunners 🙏. With 27 very pleasant and enthusiastic participants, all enjoying the beautiful winter weather at Giba Gorge MTB Park during this morning’s MyGibaRun event #127, my only disappointment is, unfortunately, the quality of the photos taken with my babe Rose’s Nikon camera.😢

Sadly, I fiddled with the settings, and this, combined with the very difficult early morning lighting conditions at Giba when it’s bright and sunny in winter (the low, angled sun plays havoc with cameras when your positioning is limited) - it gets a tad complicated, and I don’t want to bore anyone, so, please know that I have done my best to edit the photos to make them presentable, so, I hope you still enjoy viewing today’s album.

I’ve eaten humble pie, apologised to Rose and gone back to the previous settings, so, hopefully, next Sunday’s photos will be an improvement.📸🙏

The good news is that I managed to take some fairly decent photos on the trails, and also took quite a few scenic shots that show off some of the beauty of this wonderful venue. Good Friday evening, MyGibaRunners.🙏 Sorry about the delay in this week’s update, but I had to see my doctor today and, fortunately she cleared me to continue with light exercise after renewing my meds for my lung infection - and - the Shingles started easing-off 2 days ago.🥳🙏

So, all things being good, my babe Rose and I should be at Giba Gorge MTB Park bright and early on Sunday morning for MyGibaRun #127 🏃‍♂️🏃🏿‍♀️🏃🏾‍♂️🏃‍♀️🦮.

It’s going to be another cool, sunny day, so,hopefully, we will see a decent turnout - please try to get there and bring your friends and family along - the road is tarred all the way now and the only thing to remember is to drive safely and, please don’t speed.🙏

A late good Sunday evening, MyGibaRunners.🙏 It’s been a longgg day, with a few pleasant distractions and a few ups-&-downs, but I’m pleased to be posting the album link for today’s MyGibaRun #126 - Mother’s Day event.📸🎉

Just a quick note about my babe Rose’s photos - Giba, in winter, makes for some rather tough conditions for taking photos at the start/finish. This is due to the harsh side-lighting created by a low early-morning sun. There’s not much a photographer can do about this, except change their position, and, unfortunately, given the situation of the path at the start/finish, and the trees causing irregular shadows, this isn’t possible for Rose. Ironically, the best conditions for taking our photos is when it’s overcast.😇

I have tried my best to edit the photos to achieve acceptable results, but, whilst I have posted a few that I’m not very happy with (after deleting quite a few), you will notice that some photos are definitely “below par” when compared to our usual albums. My apologies.🙏

Another quick “aside” - this morning the Ou-Ballie committed the ultimate “crime” on the trails . . . Whilst I ALWAYS tell folks to “watch their feet” to avoid falling, I took a rather embarrassing tumble when I stopped to take a photo of mother and son duo, Rika de la Rey and Andre de la Rey.😱 I took a step to the right off the trail to prepare for the photo, didn’t look first, and stood on a short, thick, round stick, that immediately rolled under my foot and I went down like the proverbial sack of potatoes 😱😜. Landed on my right hip & elbow, but, fortunately, managed to hold onto my camera and also suffer no injury. Thanks to André, who immediately ran over to offer assistance and asked me to do a squat and check my limbs for anything that clicks 😇🙏. Fortunately, it appeared that the only thing injured was my pride 😜 Thanks again André and Rika for your concern 🙏.

OK - with 35 happy participants and a few other friendly visitors, I had loads of fun on the trails - and managed to snap a few decent photos 📸. I hope the two young ladies who I met near the Spooky Houses will remember to check our page to view the lovely photos that I took of them - hopefully they will join us for future events.📸🙏

Huge thanks to everyone who joined us this morning - we hope the moms enjoyed their Mother’s Day outing and the lovely Giba cupcakes afterwards. Once again, Herve Rougier-Lagane and Sonya Rougier-Lagane brought a few of their crew along to boost our numbers, and give me some work on the trails.📸🙏

Good Friday afternoon, MyGibaRunners.🙏

On Sunday we celebrate Mother’s Day and, with some beautiful weather conditions forecast for the morning, we look forward to hosting a wonderful, celebratory MyGibaRun event with (hopefully) a few mom’s being spoiled by their children.🥰

Remember that bringing your mom along for a beautiful trail run/walk would be the ideal way to work up an appetite, after which you can spoil mom with a delicious breakfast and coffee at 🥳. It’s a great way to start your day.👍

Please share this with your family and friends and bring them along - it’s still FREE ENTRY to Giba Gorge MTB Park from 07:00-07:30, and if you have your old myrun bracelet, you can still enter free until 08:15 on Sunday. Complete one of our three trail routes and relax at the restaurant afterwards.🙏
