β VAAL RIVER SYSTEM NOTICE
Massive amounts of water are making its way to the Vaal Dam and Vaal River system again, via its tributaries :(
Vaal Dam, Free State 105.31%
Seven gates will be opened in total at the Vaal Dam by 1PM today. Three were open and an additional 4 is opening today. This will cause another rise of the Vaal River downstream, so please remain alerted to the levels of the Vaal.
Lower down the runoff from the City of Johannesburg is making its way down the Klip and other tributaries towards the Lower Vaal, Vaal Barrage and then on to Bloemhof!
With more rain coming. While nothing to panic about, and a beautiful site to see the Mighty Vaal River, our fastest large flowing river, we hope that you will make your way down to the river and support the venues alongside it as they endure flood after flood. :( Those businesses and events need you now where the managers of the dams and the fortunate wealth of the rain from the skies have created this unique dilemma. So, make a booking, go and enjoy the Vaal River in full flood and support these businesses that need you now, more than ever!
Vaal Barrage is discharging 392.876 cumecs for now, but this is being managed hourly by the amazing team there.
Downstream, the Bloemhof Dam, Bloemhof, North-West is 103.23% and discharging 1002.3 cumecs and will likely continue to do so, if not increase.
When we get new information, we will share this with you.
Be Safe and Be Kind!
