The best-known Anglo-Boer War blockhouse in the Vereeniging area is the Witkop Blockhouse, situated near the R59 between Johannesburg and Vereeniging. It is one of the few surviving British masonry blockhouses still standing in Gauteng today.
If you drive south from Johannesburg toward Vereeniging, you can still clearly see it from the highway near the Engen Blockhouse 1 Stop.
