South Africa has one of the highest rates of fatherlessness in the world.
6 in 10 children grow up without a father in their home.

And it’s not just a South African issue.
It’s global. It’s generational. And it’s costly.

The impact is real:
• 90% of homeless & runaway children grew up without a father
• 85% of children with behaviour disorders come from fatherless homes
• 71% of high school dropouts are from homes without fathers
• 63% of youth suicides are from fatherless homes

This is more than a statistic.
This is a crisis of identity, guidance, and belonging.

At IQF Foundation, we’re changing this narrative one child at a time.

What an incredible week at IQ Football!⚽️🤩💪

Today we celebrated some of our players with our annual Certificate Ceremony — a moment to honour hard work, character growth, resilience, and every bit of progress made this season. We are so proud of each athlete who has committed to learning, improving, and showing up with heart.

From our youngest age groups to our U17s, we’re proud to see teamwork, discipline and passion on full display.

Thank you to our coaches, families, partners, and supporters who make all of this possible. Your belief in our players is what builds futures.

We’re thrilled to share that Different.org believes in the work we do — and with their support, we’ve launched a transformative project in Zandspruit.

Zandspruit is a vibrant community full of potential, yet it faces daily realities of underdevelopment, limited services, fatherlessness, and high youth unemployment. Despite these challenges, its young people continue to show resilience and creativity through grassroots initiatives — from informal sports teams to community radio. What’s been missing is long-term support, structure, and resources to turn this momentum into lasting change.

That’s where IQ Football, with the support of Different.org, is stepping in.

We are launching a neuroscience-based football and mentorship initiative designed to support education, job creation, and poverty alleviation in Zandspruit. By combining brain-centred football training with neuroscience-guided mentorship, we aim to give young people the tools they need to thrive on and off the pitch.

This project will engage 200 children and youth (ages U2–U18) — offering:

🏆 A safe space
🤝 Positive role models, especially male mentors
🧠 Cognitive and mindset development through our brain-centred training
⚽ Technical and motor-skills coaching
📚 Support for educational and economic opportunity
🌱 A pathway out of the cycle of poverty

With a newly prepared field, we are ready to begin training 100 toddlers and young children (1–6 years) from the daycare, as well as 100 young people (7–17 years) from the wider community.

But to make this vision sustainable, we need support.

We're now we’re inviting others to join us in building something powerful and lasting for the youth of Zandspruit. With strategic investment, we can provide consistent coaching, quality equipment, and long-term infrastructure that will change the trajectory of young lives.

Together, we can unlock potential, strengthen community, and create real impact in one of Johannesburg’s most underserved areas.

Different.org believes in this work — and we believe in the young people of Zandspruit.

We sat down with two of our players - Lee and Morui - to hear about their journey at IQ Football.

They share what’s made the biggest difference for them: the mentorship of the coaches.

It’s more than training drills and match days - it’s the learning to think differently, to lead, to keep on going despite the challenges that life throws.

At IQ, our coaches don’t just develop better players - they mentor future men and women of character.

We’re proud to see Lee and Morui growing not only in skill, but in mindset on and off the pitch.
