MEET THE INSTRUCTOR

Belinda Phillips

While working in a corporate environment behind a desk for over 20 years, I used to get terrible lower back pain. My physiotherapist recommended Pilates to strengthen my back and core muscles. I have never been a fan of gym and was surprised by how much I enjoyed and benefited from Pilates. As time went on I realised I could combine my enthusiasm for teaching

with my new passion for Pilates. After qualifying as a Pilates Mat Instructor in July 2012 from HFPA, I spent a year working at Perfect Pilates studio. Thanks to Kerryn, I gained confidence to open my own studio in May 2013. In October 2014 I further studied and received my qualification for Intermediate Reformer. On the 26th February 2021, I completed my Comprehensive Pilates course with Trifocus. I continue expanding my knowledge by attending Pilates training courses and workshops. I enjoy camping, visiting countries (mine included), walking my 3 rescue pups, hiking and Indoor Rock Climbing in my free time.

We started early for our hike this morning — the forecast promised clouds, but the day had other plans! ☀️

A gorgeous, hot morning for a 10 km hike that stretched over four hours. The pups did so well, though the last couple of kilometres tested their (and our) endurance. 💙

Now, as the afternoon rain settles in, we’re all stretched out — tired, content, and grateful for movement, rest, and balance. 🧘

Movement doesn’t always happen on the mat 🌿
This morning’s hike — soft rain, fresh air, mindful steps — reminded me how Pilates is really about presence in every movement.
Breathe. Align. Move with intention. 🌸

Thank You!!

A heartfelt thank you to all my clients, near and far, for celebrating our journey together over the years. My time in Johannesburg is drawing to a close, and a new chapter begins in beautiful Clarens.

A special thank you to Tanja Toet Simpson for opening your lovely home to host this memorable occasion, and to Estelle Van Graan and Gail Maytham for making the long trip to be part of it.

Once I’m settled, online training will resume—I'm excited to continue this journey with you in a new way.

With gratitude 💕

Wednesday's Quote: Physical Fitness is the first requisite of happiness - Joseph Pilates 💙🧘

How often do we feel tired and sluggish but if we just moved a little we felt better. I know when I used to work in the corporate environment, I was tired all the time, sluggish and had no energy. But when I added Pilates at the end of the day to my routine, I felt energised after the class, I felt better about myself and my back pain went away, which is what made me fall in ❤ and want to teach others the benefits of Pilates. 💙🥰

Who Needs a Reformer ......... Abdominal Openings 💙🧘💙

This is the last exercise of the Abdominals Series with Arms in Straps. Be mindful of the tension in the neck while you stay in a chest lift for this exercise. If you are straining in the neck, either keep the head down or use a small ball or cushion beneath the head while still engaging the abdominals. Using the weights while adducting the arms gives the arms a workout too ❤.

Why not try the mat version and let me know in the comments below what you think. If you have tried them all, let me know which one you preferred of this series 🧘🥰

Abdominal Work: Openings on the Reformer 💙🧘💙

This exercise continues with the Abdominals Arms in Straps but this time your are adding a combination of arm & leg adduction with staying in a chest lift. Your aim is to open the arms out to a T and bring it back in to your side while maintaining your high chest lift.

Muscle Focus:
💪 Abdominal muscles
💪 Latissimus Dorsi

Objective of the Exercise:
🌟 To strengthen the abdominal muscles
🌟 To improve co-ordination

Imagery:
🧐 The arm movement toward the body should be one of propelling the body through water or soft gel.

Watch Points:
👀 Maintain a high chest lift
👀 Avoid taking the legs out too wide

If you find that you are straining into the neck while maintaining the chest lift, place a small ball or cushion under the head or keep head flat until you feel stronger. If you have tight hip flexors, extend the legs higher than the 45 degree angle but not at 90.

Spike & Buffy enjoy being close to their mom 🥰🐶❤

What do our clients say? 💙

I started Pilates for the first time in my life about 5 months ago.

I am so glad I joined Belinda's class.
I struggled a lot with lower back pain and she gave me excercises to strengten my back. She will always adjust excercises according to personal needs. Today I can say my lower back pain is gone:)
She explains and show each exercise before you try it.

I would highly recommend her. Very knowledgable and fun to be around - Lynelle Luxon 💙

Thank you Lynelle ❤️
