It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dear friend, Wessel.

For so many years, Wessel was far more than the groundsman of Centurion Rugby Club. He was a familiar face, a kind soul, and someone who took immense pride in caring for the home of the Wally Hayward Marathon. His quiet dedication, warm smile, and willingness to help wherever he could made a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Wessel was a true friend to our running community, and his contribution to the Wally and to Centurion Rugby Club will never be forgotten. His legacy lives on in the countless memories made on the grounds he cared for with such pride and commitment.

To Wessel's family and loved ones, please accept our deepest and most heartfelt condolences. We hope you find comfort in knowing how much he was respected, appreciated, and loved by so many people.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest in peace, dear friend. You have left footprints that will remain in our hearts forever.

One of our favourite nights here at Alpha Centurion Athletics Club and The Wally… ❤️

Last night we hosted our annual Miway Wally Hayward Marathon Charity Handover, a very special evening where we get to give back to the organisations doing incredible work in our community.

Thanks to donations received during the Wally, together with funds made available by the Wally Organisers and the Alpha Centurion Athletics Club committee, we were able to hand over R25 000 each to four amazing charities:

🐾 Wet Nose
🍽️ Feed a Child
🌈 Rainbows & Smiles
🏠 Amadea Safe House

That is R100 000 going directly towards animals, children, families, and people who need support, care and hope.

To every runner, walker, supporter, sponsor, volunteer, committee member and friend of the Wally — thank you. This is what makes the MiWay Wally Hayward Marathon more than just a race. It is a community event with heart.

We are proud, grateful and inspired. ❤️

Centurion Mall offers ample parking close to the action, making it a great option for both runners and spectators.

🚗 How to access the parking:
➡️ Please use Entrances 7 and 10 from Embankment Road for the easiest access.

Once parked, you’ll be well positioned to make your way to the race venue with minimal hassle.

We recommend arriving early to ensure a smooth and stress‑free start to your race day experience.
