Newly-crowned Pozidrive VW Challenge Class B champion Deon Holliday Jnr completed a 100% podium-finish record for 2020 in the season finale held at Zwartkops Raceway this past weekend (November 6-7)
The Monitor Net Volkswagen Polo driver finished as runner-up in Saturdayβs first race after starting in second place on the grid. He took an early lead off the line, but pole-sitter Stuart Mack moved into first place at the midway point of the race. In Race 2, he finished in third place after heading up the midpack battle.
The shortened season saw him record seven wins, one pole position and three fastest laps. He also finished as runner-up in the series-championship; 16 points adrift of champion Rory Atkinson.
βIt was a great season for us; not just based on our results but more because we know that we gave it everything we had throughout this campaignβ said Holliday Jnr. βThis has been the strange season for everyone and we are one of a few series who managed to complete five rounds of the season. It was not the easiest year by a long shot, but it was a worthwhile one. To my support crew, my friends and family: Thank you for being behind me all the way. And not to forget our partners Monitor Net either. We promised them a championship for their 25th anniversary and we brought it home.β
Holliday Jnr continues regarding the strange circumstances faced by competitors in 2020 brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. βI think the photo that is being sent out with this press release really sums it up perfectly. Here I am celebrating a championship on my own and you can hardly see how happy I am behind a mask. We certainly missed our trackside supporters and being greeted by Monitor Netβs staff when exiting parc ferme. These were precautions and guidelines which had to be taken for us to race. We certainly hope that 2021 will bring along changes that will allow us all to be back together again.β
Monitor Net Racing would like to thank their partners Monitor Net, CentPart Motorparts, Fastprinting & Signs, and Centworx for making their 2020 season possible.
In addition, the team would also like to acknowledge and thank the series partners of the 2020 Pozidrive VW Challenge for making the season possible: Bluebelt Pozidrive, ATS Motorsport Supplies, Dunlop Tyres SA, Norbrake Distributors, Vanderlinde Developments, ATE, BPM Engineering, Platinum Wheels, Tar and Turf Motorsport Lifestyle and Yaskawa Motoman.
