About Us
At Gebert Speed Shop, we started exactly where most car enthusiasts do — in the garage, sleeves rolled up, tinkering late into the night on our own cars. What began as a personal passion for speed, performance, and getting every last bit of potential out of a machine quickly grew into something bigger.
We realized there was a real need to stand behind the privateers and weekend racers — the “small guys” who pour their hearts, weekends, and hard-earned money into their cars without big-team budgets or factory support. Too often, high-quality parts and honest service felt out of reach for them. We decided that wouldn’t be the case on our watch.

My friend asked why racers are willing to sacrifice so much for “a hobby.” I told him hobbies don’t usually save people.

He saw the trailer.
The tools.
The late nights.
The empty bank account jokes.

And he asked:
“Why are racers willing to give up so much just to go fast for a few seconds?”

I almost gave him the normal answer.

Because it’s fun.
Because we love competition.
Because adrenaline is addictive.

But that wouldn’t’ve been honest.

The truth is…
a lot of racers would be completely lost without this lifestyle.

Some people golf.
Some people fish.
Some people sit at bars every weekend complaining about life.

We build race cars.

And somewhere between broken transmissions, overnight thrashes, missed sleep, and sketchy trailer rides home…
we build ourselves too.

That’s the part outsiders never see.

They don’t see the kid who found confidence through racing.
The dad rebuilding a car with his son because they don’t know how else to connect emotionally.
The grown men who barely talk about feelings but will drive five states away at 2AM to help another racer make first call.

Racing people are different.

Not better.
Just different.

Because once you’ve felt that starting line adrenaline…
normal life never hits quite the same again.

And honestly?
That’s probably why most racers never fully leave.

Even when they sell the car.
Even when they “retire.”
Even when life forces them away for a while.

A piece of them always stays at the track.

SHE’S ALIVE!
After months of blood, sweat, and late nights, the BMG heart is finally beating. There’s nothing like that first roar to make all the hard work worth it.
Since the last update, we’ve:
- Custom-ducted the oil cooler for better cooling.
- Fabricated the cold air intake.
Tackled the mountain of wires to get the ECUMaster EMU Black integrated and talking.

A massive shoutout to Gebert Speed Shop for the incredible expertise and help getting this over the finish line. We couldn’t have done it without you.
Now, it’s time to fine-tune and get her on the tarmac. 🏎️💨

We’ve been cooking behind the scenes.
Motor is in and sitting exactly where it should, like it never left. Front end hardware back on, torqued, and looking the part.
Custom brackets done for the E46 poly anti-roll bars, no more sponge cake rubber anywhere, everything is poly or better now.

Fabbed a proper support for the dipstick tube and built a fresh M50 manifold bracket so nothing is hanging on hope and cable ties.
Next phase, we dive into the interior and start the electrical work. That’s where the real gremlins live.

Out with the old, in with the rebuilt.
The past few weeks have been spent in the workshop rather than on the timeline. The old motor is out and the new one is fully assembled and ready to go. Fresh valve stem seals, valves lapped, and a mild clean-up on the intake and exhaust ports. Nothing wild, just solid fundamentals done properly.
The engine bay got some attention while we were there, including an electric power steering conversion to take a bit of load off the crank and tidy things up.
Next up is dropping the new motor in and finishing the updated engine harness.

Wrapped up the year at Zwartkops Trax Day, sending the M50B25 out for its final run. One more clean, reliable session before the big December projects kick off. This was the last dance before the rebuild work starts and the platform gets prepped for next season’s push.

Closing the chapter on a trusted motor, opening the door to a stronger 2026.

Took the car back to Auto Pro Fitment Centre to rework and enlarge the front section of the exhaust so it clears the Z3 ...

Took the car back to Auto Pro Fitment Centre to rework and enlarge the front section of the exhaust so it clears the Z3 front X-brace. Still running the trusty M50B25 for now, but I’m building the platform with the M54B30 swap in mind. More room to breathe up front and a stiffer subframe layout to stay planted when the corner speeds get wild.

Future-proofing the build while tightening up the chassis package, one upgrade at a time.
