The road comes home.

Riders left Kromrivier Farm early and made a stop at the Tankwa Padstal, a roadside institution that felt like the perfect punctuation mark before the final push. From there, Bainskloof Pass offered one last mountain moment: winding, dramatic, and entirely fitting for a rally that has made a habit of saving something special for every stage.

Then the mountain gave way to the Atlantic, and the road rolled down to the coast. The same ocean that set the scene on Day 1, on the cliffs of Chapman’s Peak, was waiting at the end. Six days, 2,100 kilometres, and a full crossing of the Western Cape - from Sea to Berg to Karoo and back to the sea.

Pangea Rally 2026 came to a close at Meerendal W**e Estate And somewhere in the celebrations, co-founders Greg Bergh and Ant Butler, two friends who spent 15 years riding back roads together before deciding to build a world-class rally in their own backyard, shared a moment that said everything words don’t need to.

The dream was real. It just needed 80 riders and 7 days to prove it.

The group made one final stop at Oppiesee in Melkbosstrand - team pictures on the beach, a dip in the Atlantic, and a night of celebration to close out the inaugural Pangea Rally.

The only thing left to say is: see you in 2027.

The Cederberg knows how to stop you in your tracks.

Riders left Kaleo Guest Farm and headed north into one of South Africa’s most untouched corners. Cederberg doesn’t ease you in, the landscape announced itself immediately, ancient sandstone formations rising out of the earth in shapes that look like they were placed there deliberately, millennia before any road ran through them.

Pakhuis Pass carried the group higher, winding through high-altitude wilderness where the horizon seemed to go on indefinitely and the only thing competing for attention was what lay around the next corner. Out here, the Cederberg earns its reputation. Remote. Raw. Completely its own thing.

By the time riders arrived at Kromrivier Farm - nestled in the heart of the mountains - five stages of Pangea Rally 2026 were behind them.

The Karoo opens up.

Riders left Simbavati Fynbos on Sea and the landscape shifted into something vast and unhurried. Wide roads, open skies, and a silence that sits differently out here than anywhere else on the route. The Karoo doesn’t ask you to rush, it just keeps expanding.

Route 62 brought the first stop of the day: Frikkie Se G*t, a Klein Karoo institution that’s exactly what it sounds like - unpretentious, full of character and the kind of place that only exists on roads like this. A quick break before the road called again.

Then came Seweweekspoort. A narrow gorge carved through the Langeberg with towering rock walls pressing in on either side and a winding gravel road threading through it - the kind of pass that makes you slow down not because you have to, but because you want to hold onto it a little longer. The name alone has centuries of history behind it. The ride through earns every bit of it.

By the time riders pulled into Alet van Heerden, four stages of Pangea Rally 2026 were in the books. The Karoo had delivered exactly what it always does - space, scale, and a quiet that stays with you.

Two stages to go.

Day 4: The high point, in every sense.

Today marked a new chapter for the rally: Kirsten Landman, the first African woman to finish the Dakar Rally, joined the group at Red Ridge Mountain Lodge and took to the road with the Pangea pack for the first time. There couldn’t have been a better day for it.

Stage 3 had been circled on the map since day one. Riders left Red Ridge and pointed north toward the Swartberg, one of the most legendary passes in South Africa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site carved through ancient rock that has stood for millions of years. The climb is part gravel, part theater. Every corner reveals something bigger than the last.

At 1,575 metres above sea level, the group reached Die Top (the highest point of the entire rally) and one of the greatest places to ride on the African continent. From up there, the world falls away in every direction. The descent was its own reward, winding through endless valleys

By the time riders arrived at Simbavati Fynbos on Sea, the ocean and three stages of Pangea Rally 2026 were in the distance, and the evening brought the day full circle with a Q&A alongside Kirsten herself.

Route 62 and into the Little Karoo.

Riders rolled out of Gaikou Lodge Swellendam and onto one of South Africa’s most iconic stretches of road - Route 62 cutting through the heart of the Klein Karoo. The first stop wasn’t a landmark. It was a local bar, the kind you only find on roads like this, where the locals outnumber the tourists and the stories flow as freely as the drinks. A proper introduction to the region.

From there, the road changed character. Tar gave way to gravel, the towns fell away, and the riding demanded more. The route climbed through a secret pass (a rocky jeep track ascent that few maps bother to show) before dropping into a quiet winding valley where the only sounds were engines roaring and the occasional bird.

By the time Red Ridge Mountain Lodge appeared, the day had earned its rest. A dip in the pool, some relax time, and an evening that delivered more than expected - a Q&A with Sterling Noren (Wanderer, Filmmaker & Photographer) and a locally inspired buffet prepared by the Red Ridge team to round out the night.

The road opens.

The day started the way a rally should: breakfast at Cape Point Vineyards , a last-minute tightening of gear, and the kind of barely-contained energy that only exists at the start of something like this. Then the engines turned over, and just like that, the first stage of Pangea Rally 2026 was underway!

The first landmark came early. Chapman’s Peak — dramatic, coastal, unmistakable — marked the official opening of the route and set the tone for the road ahead. From there, riders pushed south through the morning before pulling over for lunch and the first stamp in their rally books. A small moment, but one that makes the distance feel real.

The afternoon shifted. Tarmac gave way to gravel, the pace changed, and the rally began to show its teeth. By the time Gaikou Lodge Swellendam appeared on the horizon, the first stage was in the books.

Before the road, there’s the start line.

Yesterday, riders arrived from across the world (25 countries to be exact), collected their rally gear, pinned their numbers and met the faces they’ll be sharing the next seven days with. Some knew each other. Most didn’t — yet.

The afternoon brought the first ride together. The optional prologue took the group out to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve ; one of the most beautiful corners of the African continent, and for many riders, their first South African landmark. A fitting introduction to the terrain that lies ahead.

From there, the day wound down at Cape Point Vineyards , dinner, conversation, and the particular feeling you only get the night before something big.

80 riders. One start line. And today, the road opens.
