Beautiful day out — spring tide doing its thing and a proper south wind trying to rearrange my hairstyle.
Mission for the day: our national fish, the mighty Galjoen (who clearly didn’t get the memo that I was coming).
Headed to one of my favourite spots fully loaded — mussel, red bait, and some live moonshine worm… basically a seafood buffet on a hook.
Tide started pushing (aka Galjoen happy hour), and I had a solid session of “was that a bite or am I imagining things?” — a few hits, plenty of misses, and some quality self-doubt.
Then finally… the moonshine worm said “don’t worry, I got you” — and boom, a proper 37cm Galjoen! First one of the season, so obviously I celebrated like I’d just won a small tournament.
Only one way to do it justice — straight onto the coals.
Also had some tuna leftovers from the last deep trip, so I tried the kebab method (cheers Jerome Petersen — you’ve created a monster).
End result? Absolute feast.
At the dinner table it was all smiles — surf on one side, deep sea on the other… and me in the middle acting like a Michelin chef who just discovered fire 🔥fabian
