FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RE: Condemnation of the incident that took place after the Hellenic vs Spirit International Football Academy (SIFA) match.
It has come to our attention that there was an incident that took place after the completion of the above match at yesterday's Engen Knockout Playoffs, held at the Strandfontein Sports Fields.
Hellenic Football Club are extremely disturbed by the altercation that took place nearly 40 minutes after the match was completed, and when our parents and players were walking towards their cars.
One of our parents and player was confronted and verbally attacked and abused by the SIFA parents and supporters. This incident then escalated into a physical confrontation between the parties.
Hellenic Football Club while believing that every person has the right to defend themselves, DOES NOT condone any form of retaliation and / or violence, wether it be against a male or female person - such behaviour has no place in our sport, in our communities and in our society.
The Club management called a meeting last night to discuss this matter/s that happened after the match. It was decided as follows :
1. The Player involved in the incident has been found guilty of transgressing the Club's Code of Conduct and will be released from the club and will be issued with his clearance with immediate effect.
2. The Parent involved in the incident is not a registered member of Hellenic Football Club and will be notified that she is no longer allowed to enter the Hellenic Football Club Facility.
3. The Club will be issuing a full report to our Local Football Association and SAFA-CT.
Soccer is a game that unites people, inspires the youth and fosters a healthy community spirit. We call on Parents, Players, Clubs, Associations, Members, Officials and Event Organisers to let this unfortunate incident serve as a reminder that we ALL have a Collective Responsibility to eliminate ALL forms of abuse and violence both on and off the field of play.
