π¨ποΈ Chris Smalling on the Manchester United board π΄
βI have to be honest, it hurts me to see what is happening at Manchester United. These people are not helping this club move forward. We all saw how badly things were going before Michael Carrick took over in January, and then he came in, changed the mentality, turned the team around, qualified for the Champions League and gave the fans something to believe in again.
If you are serious about backing your manager, a season like that should be enough motivation to invest in him. But instead, it feels like Manchester United are being held back by the very people who are supposed to help the club progress. Other clubs are strengthening their squads, bringing in quality players and preparing for the new season, while United seem to be standing still.
We keep hearing the same excuse β that they don't want to make the wrong investments like before. I understand being careful, but being careful cannot mean refusing to act. At some point, you have to take a risk for the future of the club. You cannot remain dormant while everyone around you is improving.
And honestly, I am beginning to question how much these people truly care about Manchester United. Because if you love this club, you should want to see it competing at the highest level. You should want to give the manager the players he needs. You should want the supporters to dream again.
The fans were expecting a busy summer. They were expecting quality signings. They were expecting Manchester United to build on the progress Carrick made and go into this season believing they could challenge for the Premier League.
This could have been one of the biggest opportunities for Manchester United to make a serious statement. But instead, we are watching other clubs prepare while our own club is doing almost nothing.
And that is what hurts the most. Manchester United fans deserve better. They deserve a board that fights for the club just as passionately as they do.β π΄π
