THERE’S ALWAYS AN “AND”!!!

In other words, there is always an important preparation (often a plié, dégagé, or pas de cheval) before every combination and step!
Your “and” incorporates four crucial elements!
See this photo. The “and” is the plié on the supporting leg and the fully stretched, placed foot she is about to piqué onto or with.

1) Musically - establishing the “and” with the music you are about to dance to

2) Technically - establishing the alignment and weight distribution necessary to do the upcoming step

3) Mentally - establishing a mindset that is anticipating the next count and movement

4) Performance-Wise - telling the audience you are about to do something fabulous!
