PRANA LOVE YOGA - WEEKLY UPDATE - 12 SEP 2026
Hello all
How has your week been? Any highlights? And of course .. don't forget to acknowledge the low lights.
There is a mindfulness practice called a Body Scan. It is one of the foundational mindfulness practices and the traditional practice is about 45 minutes. It is usually done lying down but can also be done sitting or even standing.
The body scan is a guided meditation that invites you to walk your awareness from one end of the body to the other .. typically from feet to head. Each body part is mentioned and sometimes in quite a bit of detail .. e.g. each finger ... and even particular bones and joints.
During my 2 year Mindfulness facilitator training we did body scans ... a lot .. maybe 100 or more. Initially this was my least favourite practice ... it just didn't click with me. I think it was too structured for me.
However, over the years, since my course, I have come to appreciate this practice more.
There are many aspects to the body scan including the usual mindfulness intention of coming into the present moment and getting some relief from the thinking mind .. even if that is only a little.
But the aspects that I am connecting with now are more related to paying detailed attention to the parts of the body I would not normally consider. I am taking time to contemplate and visualise each part or section of the body ... the structure ... the complexity ... the purpose ... the contribution to the system as whole. And even though I am not doing detailed biological research, I find myself thinking how magnificent our bodies are and I feel a strong sense of gratitude for every part of the body.
I think I have mentioned this quote by Jon Kabat-Zinn before, that says:: "As long as you are breathing, there is more right with you than wrong with you, no matter what is wrong".
Even now ... when I don't have full mobility in my shoulder and my lungs are still not back to normal, this quote reminds me how much of my body is working well .. is miraculous.
Paying attention to the detail of the body has also got me looking at animals and their magnificence in a more deliberate way. For example, I have been noticing the shapes, sizes, colours, movements, eyes, mannerisms of different birds. It is so fascinating.
Our bodies ... the bodies of others ... the bodies of the amazing creatures ... proof that there is magic all around us .. proof that actually things make sense,
If you want to try a body scan meditation you can find them on YouTube and Insight Timer. Here is an example: https://insig.ht/h4EVG6qXl6b

*** Outdoor Mindfulness Meditation with Headphones - Postponed ***
We have to cancel Sunday's meditation event because there is a chance of rain in the morning.
It is never nice to cancel an event .. mainly because I know there are some that may really be needing that time of self-care. I usually procrastinate for a while before finally taking the decision.
But we have to let nature do her thing ... and the rain is beautiful.
I will look for a new date and reschedule out magical outdoor meditation with headphones event.

**** Home of Hope - FASD Awareness Walk ****
A big thank you to those who joined us for the Home of Hope FASD Awareness walk on Wednesday.
Children affected by alcohol abuse is something that is very close to my heart, and it is a massive issue in our country in particular.
Please take a moment to go and have a look at the work that Home of Hope does ... follow them on social media and perhaps support some of their initiatives.

Please pay attention to your bodies ... listen to what it needs ... try not be critical of the parts that are struggling ... be in awe of the magnificence of your body.
Much love and blessings
