Cape 2 Rio Yacht Race The Cape to Rio Race is the Southern Hemisphere’s longest intercontinental yacht race. Sailed triennially since 1971, it has attracted entries worldwide.

The Cape 2 Rio Yacht Race, is the longest continent to continent yacht race in the southern hemisphere. It was inspired by South African sailing legend, Bruce Dalling, winner on handicap of the 1968 Transatlantic Single-Handed Yacht Race. The race was conceived to give South African & Brazilian sailors an opportunity to take part in a Trans-Atlantic Ocean crossing. Since its inception, the race ha

s evolved into a strong competitive event attracting famous sailors and yachts including Icap Leopard, Morning Glory, Rambler, Broomstick and Parker Pen. Despite the introduction of multi class and record setting entries, the race however remains true to its roots as and is open to cruising yachts and sailors.

A new trophy, a replica of the HMS Victory, presented to the RCYC Sailing Academy student who best exemplifies the spirit of Ubuntu—demonstrating respect, support, and collective strength throughout the campaign.
This year, the award went to Yobanathi Klaas, who, in her role as reserve crew, selflessly dedicated herself to the success of the team. She supported tirelessly right up until the moment the boat left the dock, embodying true team spirit.

The Neptune Cup is awarded to those who show exceptional resilience at sea - and this year it goes to Alexforbes Angel Wings.
