Clovelly – like fine Cape wines – improves steadily with age, and its vintage and quality is well established throughout South Africa, and indeed, beyond our shores. This reputation is founded on the warmth of Clovelly’s “family” character, its outstanding facilities, and steps we have taken, such as opening the Club to all irrespective of race, creed or gender, to ensure that Clovelly truly reflects the high ideal of its motto: “Fraternitas Ludorum”. Clovelly has always been one of the most popular clubs in the Western Cape. A robust membership profile ensures that the club thrives from sporting, competitive, social and financial perspectives. Visitors from as far as Thailand and Ireland frequent our fairways, and tour groups from far flung corners of the world regularly repeat their visits because of the golfing experienced to be enjoyed in our pristine valley. Indeed, in some cases visitors from Europe spend up to six or eight months a year with us. Between our members and our valued visitors some 60 000 rounds are played on the golf course each year. One can see why it is necessary to plan and book your rounds in advance. Even though the amount of rounds is high, the course is consistently in good condition. Our greens are respected around the world! Our golf course and facilities are consistently rated in the top fifty in the country by a leading panel of raters utilized in the annual South African “Compleat Golfer” survey of golf clubs. The results of this survey are published annually by the “Compleat Golfer”. Given that there are over 450 golf clubs in South Africa, this result is something of which we are proud and we continually seek ways to to improve our standards, and indeed our golf course. Potential course improvements are continuously reviewed, and if agreed to, are undertaken with minimal disruption to the course itself. We vigorously apply a policy that the nature and characteristics of the course must never be changed; course changes must merely serve to enhance and improve the layout.

There is plenty happening at Clovelly as we welcome spring! 🌿

We celebrate Fish Hoek High School’s WP High School League victory, Evan Marais representing South Africa in Italy, and an extraordinary five holes-in-one during August! Congratulations to Kean Dry, Quinton Crowster, Liam Robinson, Riefaat Meyer and Mark Chambers.

Around the Club, work continues on the 3rd hole, including the culvert and cart path, new trees, and further progress on the green and bunkers. Our refreshed Halfway House menu is also ready, with new options joining some familiar favourites.

Hollow tining takes place on Monday and Tuesday, 7 and 8 September. Preparations begin this afternoon, with no nine-hole golf or driving-range access, and the Club will be closed during the work.

The first coot chicks have appeared on the dam and our no-mow areas are being left to flower. With Western Leopard Toads also on the move, please travel slowly and carefully along Clovelly Road, for the wildlife, children, pets and people who share this special corner of the valley 💛

A look back at the week at Clovelly ⛳

The transformation of our 3rd hole continued this week, with the project remaining firmly on schedule. Following the careful removal and shaping process, the green surface is complete, the irrigation system has been reinstated and the original turf is being painstakingly relaid. Work has also begun on the greenside bunkers and swale, with tree planting, fairway bunker work and the new pathway still to come. We remain on track to reopen during the week of 21 September.

Tuesday brought another proud moment when our very own Katia Shaff officially graduated as a PGA Professional. This is a wonderful achievement, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have Katia as part of the Clovelly team as she begins this exciting chapter in her career!

We also celebrated some golfing magic from Kean Dry, who made a hole-in-one on our 19th hole this past Saturday. Congratulations, Kean! 🎉

The tournament will take place at Goose Valley Golf Club, in Southern Cape from Monday, 28 to Wednesday, 30 September 2026.

For the cherry on top, congratulations to our Harry Solomon league players on their advancement to the FINALS! We take on Rondebosch at Metropolitan this coming Sunday. We’ve had another excellent week for golf. Our 15th hole is officially open again and winter is spoiling us with lovely, sunny, wind-free days. There is nowhere else we would rather be!

In addition to the beauty at home, we’ve had some outstanding golf from our members. Congratulations to the below golfers on flying the Clovelly flag so high! We’re a proud club.

🏆 Junior Golf: Congratulations to Evan Marais on his victory at the Erinvale Junior Championship. He had a brilliant level-par finish, before holding his nerve to win in a playoff. Zach Potgieter finished 3rd, adding to another 3rd-place finish at the Milnerton Junior Open the previous week. Luke Jacobs secured 7th, with Adam Perring finishing 10th, giving Clovelly an incredible four juniors in the top 10 at Erinvale!

🏆 Golf RSA / WP Champion of Champions: Congratulations to Gill Briggs on winning the Women's B Division, Noeleen Bruton on finishing runner-up in the Women's C Division, and Daniel Joseph on an excellent 6th place in the Men's A Division.

🏆 Senior Golf: Well done to Matt Mills, who won the Pearl Valley Senior Open with a superb one-under-par total. We’re sorry for the late post!
