Clovelly – like fine Cape wines – improves steadily with age, and its vintage and quality is well established throughout South Africa, and indeed, beyond our shores. This reputation is founded on the warmth of Clovelly’s “family” character, its outstanding facilities, and steps we have taken, such as opening the Club to all irrespective of race, creed or gender, to ensure that Clovelly truly refle

cts the high ideal of its motto: “Fraternitas Ludorum”. Clovelly has always been one of the most popular clubs in the Western Cape. A robust membership profile ensures that the club thrives from sporting, competitive, social and financial perspectives. Visitors from as far as Thailand and Ireland frequent our fairways, and tour groups from far flung corners of the world regularly repeat their visits because of the golfing experienced to be enjoyed in our pristine valley. Indeed, in some cases visitors from Europe spend up to six or eight months a year with us. Between our members and our valued visitors some 60 000 rounds are played on the golf course each year. One can see why it is necessary to plan and book your rounds in advance. Even though the amount of rounds is high, the course is consistently in good condition. Our greens are respected around the world! Our golf course and facilities are consistently rated in the top fifty in the country by a leading panel of raters utilized in the annual South African “Compleat Golfer” survey of golf clubs. The results of this survey are published annually by the “Compleat Golfer”. Given that there are over 450 golf clubs in South Africa, this result is something of which we are proud and we continually seek ways to to improve our standards, and indeed our golf course. Potential course improvements are continuously reviewed, and if agreed to, are undertaken with minimal disruption to the course itself. We vigorously apply a policy that the nature and characteristics of the course must never be changed; course changes must merely serve to enhance and improve the layout.

Welcome home to our Brian Dlutu and Shaun McLaren, following their trip to the 12th Talking Turf Superintendents’ Conference at Kruger National Park!

Held every second year, the conference brings together greenkeepers, suppliers and turf professionals from around the world to share ideas, learn from leading industry experts, and build relationships that strengthen the future of turf management. This year’s event featured speakers from the USA, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Europe and the UAE, covering everything from irrigation and disease management to golf course construction and sustainability.

Of course, no golf trip would be complete without a round at the world-renowned Leopard Creek Country Club, where Brian and Shaun made Clovelly proud by winning the social golf competition before the conference officially began. They also had the opportunity to see elephant, buffalo, leopard and giraffes in the wild. What a special experience!

We look forward to hearing their stories from the edge of the Kruger, and of course, to the new knowledge they'll apply to the course.

Yesterday evening, we had the pleasure of welcoming the wonderful ladies of the Senior Women Golfers SA Nationals to Clovelly for the official flag-raising ceremony, followed by a light dinner in the clubhouse.

It is an honour to host so many golfers from across the country this week, alongside our friends at Westlake Golf Club. While hosting an event of this size is no small feat, it has been a privilege to open our doors and share the warmth and hospitality that make Clovelly so special.

We wish all the competitors a fantastic tournament ahead, filled with great golf, new friendships and memorable moments. You can find the photos taken yesterday on our page 🙂

After a challenging few days, we are pleased to confirm that the golf course will reopen on Thursday, 14 May! 🥳

A huge thank you to Brian Dlutu, the course team, and our golf ops staff, who have worked tirelessly to clear storm debris and prepare the course for play. The clean-up is still ongoing, so players can expect to see piles of branches around the course, which should be treated as Ground Under Repair (GUR). Our maintenance team will have right of way, and the occasional chainsaw may provide some background music to your round.

The course remains too wet for golf carts, including medical carts, and a few holes are still drying out. If the 15th hole is not playable, the 19th hole will be used instead.

We are also excited to reopen the 16th hole tomorrow, following improvements to the green and bunkers 🙂

While the course looks a little different, Clovelly remains as beautiful as ever. Thank you to all our members for your patience, encouragement, and support. As a small thank you, members will continue to receive 20% off all food and beverages, until the end of Saturday 💛

After 48 hours of severe weather, the full extent of the damage at Clovelly has become clear. More than 30 of our beautiful trees were lost during the storm, with significant debris across the course. The clubhouse stretch tent and driving range safety net were also damaged.

As a result, the golf course and driving range will remain closed on Wednesday, 13 May, while our team, together with contractors and additional labour, begins the major clean-up operation. Our goal is to reopen the course on Thursday, 14 May, although some restrictions may still apply and right of way will be extended to the clean up crew. Once reopened, you can expect to see ongoing clean-up work for a number of weeks as we restore the course.

The clubhouse will be open tomorrow from 08h00 to 17h00, with the Bar and Restaurant operating as usual. You're welcome to join us for a meal and a look at the course. All members will receive 20% off all food and beverages for the day.

Thank you to you all for your patience, understanding, and support. For anyone desperate for a golfing fix, would love to have you!

Cape Town’s severe weather has caused significant damage at Clovelly. Over the past twelve hours, a powerful cold front has brought heavy rain and exceptionally strong winds, unlike anything we have experienced in many years. The weather has caused localised flooding, fallen trees, and widespread electricity outages across the South Peninsula.

Closer to home, an electricity pole has been blown down in Clovelly, blocking access to the club, and the golf course has sustained significant tree damage. Our Greenkeeper, Brian Dlutu, and Golf Manager, John Spyker, have been on site assessing the situation, and Brian has shared some photos of the damage. It's a sad day for him, seeing years of planning and dedication destroyed in a matter of hours.

In the interest of staff safety and safe travel, the decision was made to close both the clubhouse and golf course early this morning. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. At this stage, we are hopeful (but not confident) that the course will reopen tomorrow, although cart usage is likely to be suspended until Thursday. Course clean-up will be ongoing for the next couple of weeks.

Keep warm and safe, everyone. Our thoughts are with those who have been affected by the weather, and for those people and animals who don't have the protection of homes. Thank you to the service workers braving the elements to remove debris and restore power!

Cold weather calls for comfort food!

Our new winter menu launches tonight and it’s packed with hearty favourites made for cosy evenings 🥘 Think rich lasagne, spicy lamb curry, seafood pizza fresh from the oven, and a good, traditional bangers & mash. Winter at Clovelly just got a little more delicious 😋
