Montrose Cricket Club was established in a Banana Store in District Six,a vibrant community area,on the periphery of Cape Town in 1950.Its membership has always been very cosmopolitan,representing the full spectrum of all religions,racial and class divides and it has been firmly entrenched as a community sporting institution. In 1976,the club suffered the humiliation of the ex-government's forced
removals policy and moved its base onto the Cape Flats area,more specifically the Athlone area.Its constituency became predominantly the poor and underprivileged.Notwithstanding,the club committee remained focused,and continued to provide for and encourage cricketers with the opportunity of playing cricket at a competitive level. Playing in the old Western Province Cricket Board (WPCB) during the 80's the club won at least one trophy during each year of that decade.Montrose is therefore regarded as the most successful club in the history of the WPCB. Montrose Cricket Club has a rich history and huge reputation as a successful community institution based on its performances over a long period of time and the personalities produced and associated with the club.
