One minute you’re racing along side a racer and the next he’s gone. The unfortunate part is this was not a cause of the race organization or the course. 3 kids no longer have a father because a driver was impatient and only cared for himself and passed a car on a low speed road and didn’t see the 10:30am day lit biker with double blinky lights, reflective vest and traffic triangle on his back.
I’ve spent tha day talking to my teenage students in class about biker laws and riding vs driving on a roadway. I hope in some small way I’ve been able to explain bikes can be on a roadway. Driving schools do a horrible job explaining this. I’ve tried to explain a 30sec. delay to pass a rider safely can mean the difference between life and death.
Drivers have this negative attitude towards bikers. Trails are always better but sometimes to get from one point to another we’re going to be on a road. Please be patient and understand 4 wheels, speed and weight over 2 wheels and a cyclist. 4 wheels wins every single time! PLEASE WATCH OUT AND SHARE THE ROAD WITH CYCLISTS!
