Cape Town Metro Modern Pentathlon Modern Pentathlon is a unique multi-discipline sport that challenges both body and mind, designed to reflect the diverse skills of a complete athlete.

As a SAMPA & UIPM member, CTMPA hosts league events in Cape Town for Laser Run, Biathle & Triathle – dynamic sports born from Modern Pentathlon, open to athletes of all ages. Welcome to CTMPA – Cape Town Modern Pentathlon Association

We are proud members of SAMPA (South African Modern Pentathlon Association) and affiliated with the UIPM (Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne), the internatio

nal governing body for this exciting Olympic sport. The full pentathlon now combines five Olympic disciplines:

Fencing (Épée one-touch bouts) – testing focus, reflexes, and tactical thinking. Swimming (200m freestyle) – pushing endurance and speed in the pool. Obstacle Course Racing – the newest addition, testing strength, agility, and adaptability. Laser Run (running + laser pistol shooting combined) – an adrenaline-filled finale blending precision and stamina. Alongside the full pentathlon, the sport also offers exciting development and entry pathways:

Laser Run – a fast-growing, accessible sport for all ages that combines running and laser pistol shooting. Biathle – a run–swim–run format, perfect for athletes who enjoy endurance and water sports. Triathle – combining shooting, swimming, and running in a dynamic sequence. Whether you are new to the sport, a young athlete looking for a challenge, or a seasoned competitor, CTMPA provides training, community, and opportunities to grow within these disciplines. Join us on our journey to develop and inspire athletes in Cape Town and beyond – and experience the spirit of modern pentathlon and its exciting multi-sport formats.

Get ready for an action-packed day of speed, skill, and excitement! Join us on 9 May 2026 at Gene Louw Primary School for the Western Cape Laser Run Champs.

Whether you're a seasoned athlete or just keen to take on a new challenge, this event is for YOU 💥

• Practice Shooting Range opens: 08H00

• Race Start: 11H00
