INAUGURAL STADIO CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS U20 TOURNAMENT
The first Stadio Champion of Champions U20 Tournament, sponsored by Stadio Higher Education, will be held from 12 to 17 September at Hamilton SP Rugby Club in Green Point. This invitational tournament is held for U20 teams playing in the Western Province Club Rugby League.
The Stadio Champion of Champions tournament will have eight U20 teams participating that are representative of the Super B and Super C leagues, challenging teams from the Super A league.
The eight participating teams are Hamilton SP RFC (A), Stadio Invitational XV (A), UniMil RFC (A), Tygerberg RFC (A), Bellville RFC (B), Hands and Hearts RFC (B), Strand RFC (C) and Blue Star RFC (C).
According to Andries Carstens, one of the organisers of the tournament, the aim of the tournament is to give players a platform to compete against teams they don’t normally play against. Through the generous sponsorship of Stadio Higher Education, we will be awarding a Man of the Match award for every match, and a Team of the Tournament will be selected by the WP U20 Head Coach, Mr Labeeb Levy.
The winner of the tournament will be determined by the top position on the Champion of Champions log and the Challenger Trophy will be awarded to the team from the Super B and C league teams that have the most log points.
The tournament, which is being hosted by Hamilton Rugby Club will be held from 12 to 17 September at the Stephen Oval in Green Point. All the matches will be live streamed by Club Rugby Live and the gate entry will be R10.
Two matches will be played on Monday 12 to Thursday 15 September with kick-off at 18.30 and 20.00. Eight games will be played on Saturday 17 September kicking off at 10.00 and the last game will kick-off at 17.00, followed by the prizegiving.
