HEART OF A MONTY BEAR. 💚🐻

They may have entered Derby Day as the underdogs, but the Monty Bears made sure they were never defined by it.

These girls left everything on the field. They fought for one another, celebrated one another and kept going until the very end. 🏉

What stood out was the passion throughout the entire team. From the players on the field to the coaches and management alongside it, you could see just how much representing Fairmont meant to them.

In their very first year of girls rugby, they are already building something special. A team with heart, togetherness and immense pride in their school. 💚

Hold your heads high, Monty Bears. This is only the beginning. 🐻

PROUD TO BE AN EAGLE. ❤️🦅

This one is about the girls.

The teammates who celebrated every try together, picked each other up after every tough moment, and kept fighting for the jersey and for one another.

There was plenty to celebrate for Edgemead on Derby Day, but what stood out most was the team spirit, togetherness and respect shown throughout the day.

Proud performances. Special memories. And a group of girls who can be proud of what they achieved together. ❤️🏉

It was hard to hold back the tears after the final whistle. ❤️💚

There were tears of joy, tears after a tough match, and for some, tears knowing they had just played one of their final games of school rugby.

The captains spoke from the heart, thanking their teammates, coaches, schools and everyone who has shared this journey with them. For our matriculants especially, the emotions said more than words ever could. 🥹🏉

After all the tackles, tries and Derby rivalry, both teams stood together with nothing but respect and gratitude.

These are the moments that make schoolgirls’ rugby so special. 💚🐻🤝🦅❤️

More than a Derby. 💚🐻🤝🦅❤️

Saturday, 22/08, marked the first-ever girls rugby matches between Fairmont HS and Edgemead HS as part of their Derby Day, and while the rugby delivered plenty of excitement, it was what happened between the moments of competition that stood out most.

Derbies are known for fierce rivalry, but these girls showed that you can compete with everything you have and still have respect for the players standing opposite you.

We saw players supporting each other's successes, showing genuine concern when injuries occurred, and coming together after two hard-fought matches. That sportsmanship was one of the highlights of the day. 🏉❤️

The U19 clash provided plenty of drama! The match initially finished 19-19, before both coaching teams agreed to an additional five minutes following confusion around the half-length duration. Edgemead eventually found the decisive score to claim the first U19 Girls Derby victory, 26-19.

DERBY DAY HISTORY IN THE MAKING! 🏉🔥

This Saturday, the Monty Bears 💚🐻 and Edgemead Eagles ❤️🦅 meet at Fairmont High School for a special first: the first-ever girls rugby matches to form part of this derby!

Fairmont are in their first season of girls rugby, while Edgemead are now in their third, and both schools will proudly field U16 and U19 teams on the day.

Two schools. Two age groups. One historic Derby Day. 🔥

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS

We are incredibly proud to announce that Charne Jupp and Hlumani Mtwana are officially heading to Australia to represent South Africa at the Tag Rugby World Cup 2026! 🏉💚💛

The powerhouse duo will compete in the Women’s Open Division in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, from 15–19 October 2026. 🇦🇺

This incredible achievement is the result of 18 months of relentless training, sacrifice, discipline and determination. They have pushed themselves physically, tactically and mentally to earn the opportunity to wear the green and gold on one of the biggest stages in the sport.
