For the past 25 years, I've worked in two worlds that are often kept separate: the pool deck and the gym floor.

Why choose between strength and conditioning when you can train both?

Hybrid training combines different elements of fitness to develop a body that is not only stronger, but also fitter and more capable.

Strength.
Conditioning.
Functional movement.
Mobility.
Cardiovascular fitness.

Different components. One overall goal: Better performance, and whether you're training for a Summer body, improving your general fitness or simply wanting to feel better in your body, there's value in developing more than one aspect of fitness.

Train the whole body.

πŸ’ͺ Want to change your body? Don't forget to train your muscles.

Cardio has its place, but if your goal is to build a stronger, more defined and capable body, resistance training should be part of your programme.

Strength training can help you:

βœ”οΈ Build and maintain muscle
βœ”οΈ Improve strength
βœ”οΈ Support better movement
βœ”οΈ Improve overall fitness
βœ”οΈ Build a stronger foundation for other activities

And no β€” you don't have to become a bodybuilder. πŸ˜‰

The goal is to train according to your body, your ability and your goals.

Summer-ready isn't just about losing something.

It's also about building something stronger.

β˜€οΈ The December body starts with what you do in September.

If getting fitter, stronger and more confident is one of your goals for Summer, don't leave it until November.

The earlier you start, the more time you have to build good habits and make sustainable progress.

My approach isn't about punishing yourself for a few weeks and hoping for a miracle.

It's about consistent training, sensible nutrition, recovery and gradually getting stronger and fitter.

Start now. Give yourself time.

Your future Summer self will appreciate it. πŸ’ͺ

🌿 Recovery is part of the programme.

Sometimes the smartest thing you can do for your progress is rest.

Your body needs time to recover from training.

Sleep.
Hydration.
Good nutrition.
Rest days.

These aren't signs that you're slacking.

They're part of the process.

If you're starting your Summer fitness journey now, remember:

Consistency doesn't mean doing everything every day. It means staying committed over time.

πŸ‹οΈ You don't have to be an athlete to train like one.

One of the things I enjoy most about training is helping people discover what their bodies are actually capable of.

You might start with a goal of losing some weight or getting Summer-ready, but along the way, you may discover something even better:

You're stronger.
Your fitness has improved.
Everyday movement feels easier.
Your confidence grows.

That's what makes training worthwhile.

The Summer body is the bonus. A stronger, fitter you is the goal.

🍽️ Training hard but ignoring nutrition?

Your workouts are only part of the picture.

If you're working towards a healthier, stronger and more Summer-ready body, what you put into your body matters too.

That doesn't mean starving yourself.

It means learning how to fuel your body properly and making better choices consistently.

Training + nutrition + recovery = progress.

There are no magic shortcuts.

Build habits you can actually maintain.

πŸ’ͺ What does a Summer body actually mean?

For me, it's not simply about looking good in a swimsuit.

It's about feeling strong.
Moving well.
Having energy.
Feeling confident in your body, and being fit enough to enjoy the things you want to do.

That's why training shouldn't only focus on the mirror.

Build the strength.
Build the fitness.
Build the habits.

The physical changes will follow.

Summer is coming β€” but your goal should be more than just looking good for it.

β˜€οΈ Summer bodies aren't built in December.

If you're thinking about getting into better shape for Summer, now is the time to start.

You don't need extreme diets.
You don't need to train seven days a week.
And you definitely don't need to wait until December.

What you do need is a plan, consistency and training that works for your body and your goals.

Strength. Conditioning. Functional movement. Nutrition. Recovery.

Start now and give yourself time to make meaningful progress before the Summer holidays arrive.

Your December self will thank you. πŸ’ͺ

August is done. What did you do for yourself this month?

Did you train?

Did you improve?

Did you learn something about your body?

Did you become a little stronger, fitter or more disciplined?

Progress isn't always dramatic.

Sometimes it's simply:

One more session.

One better choice.

One extra kilometre.

One more rep.

One decision not to give up.

Those small wins add up.

September is a new month β€” and summer is getting closer. β˜€οΈ

So take a moment to recognise how far you've come.

Then ask yourself: What do I want to improve next?

Let's keep moving forward.
