Ram Barkai and Kieron Palframan successfully survive a swim from Seal Island to Mainland Strandfontein.
This is the first recorded swim from seal island which is inhabited by approximately 64,000 Cape fur seals. The island is famous for its “Ring of Death” where the Great White Sharks have been witnessed launching themselves out of the water to catch seals.
The Discovery channel series “Air Jaws” was filmed here in 2001.

An elite men’s relay team consisting of OWS legends Anthony Pearse, Barend Nortje (who held the solo record for over 13 years), Brad Gale and pacey newcomer Mark Chamberlin flew across False Bay today in 7h29. Their aim was to break 8 hours and they smashed it, as well as the young relay record. Conditions weren’t easy but the bay welcomed the swimmers and crew with its beauty and everyone had an unforgettable day on the water - this is what open water swimming is all about 🌊 ❤️ 🏊‍♂️ 🙌
Huge congratulations to the Fast Foursome. Your Gold medals await and we have no doubt that those solo thoughts are already brewing.

Huge congratulations must go to Ryan Stramrood of Rondebosch who swam across False Bay today, 18 March in a record time of 8 hours and 39 minutes. The 33km swim from Miller’s Point to Rooi Els is regarded as one of the toughest in the world, as False Bay presents a range of difficult challenges from huge swells and abundant sea life. Ryan becomes the sixth swimmer to achieve this milestone and opens the doors to many international adventurers to emulate his feat. Well done Ryan – we salute you.

Carina Bruwer becomes the first person to swim across Walker Bay, approximately 21km from Hermanus to Gansbaai. Her conditions were tough as she faced nasty head currents but completed the swim in 6hr 36min.
The swim was done to raise money for the Tribuo Fund- which supports performing artists who have lost their source of income due to the pandemic.
