One thing I've come to realize as a swim coach is that not all your student will progress the same❤️

Some needs constant repeatation, reassurance and lots of patience 💯

Some will progress very fast. I had trained a student that was able to float, glide and kick properly on the first day.

But these same techniques took another student about 2 to 3 classes to master.

Now the question is does that make you less of a coach or your student a slow learner? "" Honest answer is NO❎

Your students is not slow and you are not less. The truth is everyone learn in their own phase and differently. So as a coach you it's not advisable for you to stick to just one pattern of coaching.💯

Be ready to adjust to accommodate all kinds of student. That makes you a better coach 💧

So… your child hates swimming lessons 😅

You’re definitely not alone, it’s something so many parents experience, and there can be lots of reasons behind it. Fear of the water, shyness, low confidence, or even just feeling overwhelmed can all play a part.

One of the best first steps? Talk to them. A calm chat at the right moment can help you understand what’s really putting them off. Once you know the “why”, everything feels a little easier to tackle 🫶🏻

It also helps to gently remind them why swimming matters. Not just for lessons now, but for their future, holidays, water sports, confidence around water, teaching their own kids one day, and yes… even lifesaving skills 🐡

If lessons start to feel repetitive, reassure them that they won’t last forever. Setting small goals and helping them see progress (and an end point!) can be a real motivator.

A quick chat with their instructor can go a long way too. Sharing how your child is feeling gives teachers the chance to adapt sessions and make them more enjoyable 🐡

And if needed, switching things up, learning alongside a friend — can completely change their mindset.

Most importantly, keep persevering. Swimming teachers see this all the time, and sometimes it genuinely takes a few weeks of sitting on the side before a child feels ready to jump back in 💙

From tiny splashes to lifelong confidence

Learning to swim from a young age is about so much more than just moving through water — it helps children build real, lasting skills that support them throughout life.

🐠Water safety first:
Early swim lessons give kids essential tools to understand water and be safer around it — a foundation that can truly matter in everyday life.

🐬Confidence & resilience:
Mastering new movements and challenges boosts self-belief and shows children what they’re capable of.

🐙Physical & brain development:
Swimming engages the whole body and supports coordination, balance, focus, and even skills that help outside the pool.

🐢Social skills & wellbeing:
Group lessons are fun and encourage teamwork, friendships, and emotional calmness, which are all important for school and life.

Swimming is a skill for life, and starting young helps make the water feel welcoming, empowering and joyful. 💙
