For the first time ever SOSA hosted an Athlete Leader Council Meeting. We have amazing people as athlete leaders in our provinces. Congratulations Joyce and good luck to you and your mentor, Evelyn Siyako, with all your plans for the future.

SOSA had an awesome three days at hakuna Matata with Athlete Leaders from all nine provinces of SA.

What an amazing event this was. 9 Athlete Leaders, their 9 mentors, 9 provincial coordinators and three SOSA staff met at Hakuna Matata in Parys. Hakuna Matata is the best place in the world to be for group work - food is very nice, activities challenging and most enjoyful and the accommodation very comfortable!. We worked extremely hard but we also had lots of fun. Relationships were strengthened. Athlete Leaders were empowered to return to their provinces and start rendering their services to other athletes and their provinces with the support of their inspired mentors and supportive provincial coordinators.

Dr Bernardus van der Spuy from Department of Sport and Recreation spent Tuesday morning 18 November 2014 with the SOSA staff to familiarize us with the National Sport and Recreation Plan. Do you know that only about 30% of South Africans do some regular activities to stay fit and healthy? SOSA will complete the Transformation Scorecard during our Planning Session next week to see how many smiling robots we may achieve! This was a most informative morning. Thank you Dr van der Spuy.

SANESA (South African National Equestrian Schools Association) supports SOSA.

Two Special Olympics South Africa Equestrian athletes Maria Matlala and Themba Sibiya plus their coach Renae Erasmus were advanced to Special Olympics World Summer Games at the National Equestrian Games held at Shumbashaba on 31 May 2014.

SANESA handed a cheque of R25 000 to Dr Mathews Phosa, Chairperson of SOSA Board on Tuesday, 11 November 2014 to sponsor one of the athletes going to Los Angeles for Special Olympics World Summer Games in July 2015.

What a great gesture from SANESA. They showed their involvement in our athletes and their support is much appreciated. We are deeply grateful for this contribution towards the huge costs involved in taking a team of 91 people to Los Angeles. Thank you SANESA!

We believe money cannot buy happiness but we are wrong. Money can buy happiness if you spend it helping somebody else.

Warren Ehlers donated an amount of money to SOSA which will enable an athlete with intellectual disability to receive Golf Training from a professional golf coach. The support of our friend Warren made a dream come true for one of our golfers! Fantastic! Thank you Warren for supporting our athlete!
