Grasslands Safaris is situated in the Free State province of South Africa. We offer wing shooting on vast concession areas as well as plains game hunting on our own property and neighbouring concessions. We target only wild birds on a sustainable model, as we have been doing for the past 20+ years. We know what it takes to create a memorable hunting experience. Exclusive access to the best concess

ions in the area, very limited pressure on bird populations, well trained gun dogs and comfortable accommodation all contribute towards the perfect stay. The owners, Carel and Carine Coetzer, will welcome you to the lodge and make sure that if you arrive as a client, you will leave as a friend. The original farmhouse has been converted to a lodge, with all rooms being en suite and well appointed. The family has strong ties to the land and the area, with the farm being in the family for more than a century.

Pigeon shooting season is here.

After good rains, the sunflower fields are yielding well. We expect a good season of shooting with the abundance of food. It is much cooler and wetter than usual with frequent overcast weather. From our latest scouting sessions, the birds seem to fly longer in the cooler weather (as per usual). For a change, we might need a jacket in February.

Walked up Guineafowl.

It is always exciting walking up birds in tall grass. Guineafowl are skilled at hiding and even more so with good cover. Often hunters walk past birds no less than a few steps away. Impossible to see, blended with the surroundings it is baffling how black with white dots hide so well. A good nose however will uncover cunning Guineafowl. Bravo to these 3 doing what pointers should.
