It's so important to be grateful.

Back in January this year, I developed cellulitis in my belly button at the site of surgery. When I had my double mastectomy back in June 2023, in order for me to have reconstruction, they took belly fat, with that they needed to detach my belly button and give me a whole new one. I'm really not sure why. The point is, this is what they did. Now, almost a year and a half later, I developed an abscess, which became quite nasty, and I needed antibiotics, and it has taken since January for it to heal. Every time I think it has closed, it opens up again.
I have just completed my 3rd round of antibiotics this year. My immune system has been incredibly low. The image of little skin tags is what has developed over a course of 6 months to a year because of my low immune system.
I want to say I'm grateful for how amazing our bodies are, how if you listen to it, it can tell you things that you need to know so that you can be healthy. I am also grateful for modern medicine as well as traditional medicine. Without it, I wouldn't be here.
The skin tags have almost disappeared after taking zinc, vit b, and selenium since January. And because I am not 100%, i will continue to take the supplements.
As I get back into my exercise routine, I will see if my belly button decides to reopen, but ๐Ÿ™ not.

But in the meantime, I do my best to stat fit, stronger, healthy and cancer free.

Back to Zumba with .sims2013 this morning. First time in about 2 weeks for after a shoulder injury and been sick for a week and after a week for me after being off with a chest infection.

It's that time of the year again. It's become a time of significance for me...

It's been
* 6 years since my first diagnosis.
* 2.5 years since my second diagnosis
* 1.5 years since last chemotherapy and surgery
* 2 years !

Every March, I do it all, blood tests, CT scans, bone density, everything to check that I am in the clear and stay in the clear.
It's hard to go do these tests without thinking, "Will they find something this time? "
It's always with you.

This year will be my last year that I will need to see a doctor every 3 months, it will move to every 6 months and in time will become once a year.

Even with all the random side effects, I stay strong and stay cancer FREE!

I continue to fight on a daily basis, stronger every day.๐Ÿ’ช

I try not to live in the past and always look forward to the future but at certain times of the year, I find it's good to take pause, look back at where you were so you can see how far you've come.

2 years today, I started chemotherapy, the start of a very long physical and mental journey to recovery and being

It's being a long journey, and it's not fully over, but every day, I work at getting stronger, fitter, healthier, and happier.

2 years clear and I am greatful for all that I have being through, the lessons learnt, the people who have supported me and my little family that has gone through this with me every step of the way.

well, let's just say it's sugar-less challenge.

So I don't want to make life completely miserable for my child. So we are doing absolutely no sugar 6 days a week and 1 day a week we can have 1 sugar treat.

I realise this may defeat the point - scientifically - BUT less sugar is definitely better than too much sugar.

We are on week two, and we're actually doing quite well.
I have seen a noticeable change in Rebecca's skin condition from breaking out quite badly to her skin clearing up quite substantially. I also notice she's more focused at school and her eating of healthier and better food has increased.

For me, I'm not feeling as bloated. I did notice that when I did have a little chocolate, it upset my tummy, which means that milk chocolate is on the list along with gluten when it comes to .

No sugar is supposed to also help with inflammation too, but unfortunately I have not seen a noticeable difference as yet.

Watch this space as we continue on our Sugar-less journey.

Summer is coming!
While I have done my hardest to keep fit and wat healthy during winter, it just seems much easier to eat super healthy in summer than in winter. ๐Ÿคฃ

I am proud of myself, I have managed to keep the 5kg I lost before winter off, but with summer coming, it's time to step it up a notch and really make an effort.๐Ÿ’ช

Rebecca and I will be starting a 30 day, I'm going to say 'low sugar' challenge from 1 September.
It's super important for my health to have as little sugar in my diet as possible. This is a challenge when I am a chocoholic.
Rebecca needs less sugar for many reasons, including the fact that when she has less sugar, she concentrates better and performs mentally better.

If you're keen to join us, please do.
I'll try post at least once a week about it.
We are going to no sugar, except for Saturdays.

What a difference a year can make!

Yes! It's 1 year to the day that I went in for surgery.
Double mastectomy with reconstruction.
A year down the line I am strong-ish, fit-ish, cancer free and happy.
The recovery from the surgery and chemotherapy has been a very long journey and it continues still.

But every day I get a little stronger and a little fitter.

I would not have gotten through the past 2 years without , my angel child - Rebecca and my girls, Lisa, , .hettie.wainwright sandra and so many more of my support.

You have played a role in my journey and I love you all to bits.

And of course my oncologist Dr Hitchin and my surgeon Dr Jacob's, they have been on this journey with me since March 2019.

This time last year, i was bald, counting the days down to my last chemotherapy session and at the heaviest I had ever been. I had put on 8kgs from steroids alone.
Today, I have curly healthy hair, my fitness is getting better each day, and I'm getting stronger and stronger. I am officially 5kgs down....

With my track record of , & now losing weight is not easy for me.
I had decided that at the beginning of the year, one of my goals was that I had to lose weight.

Why?
Because...
1. Being overweight keeps me at a high risk of getting other Cancers
2. Being overweight, my body swells more ...
3. In turn, it is causing the joint pain I experience to be worse
4. In general for me, being overweight is just not healthy for me.

Yes, I should accept myself and my body, BUT my body is failing me because I'm overweight.

It's not about being skinny. It's about being strong, healthy, and fit, and that's what I intend to achieve.
