FROM THE POOL TO THE WORLD STAGE 🇿🇦

At Little Fishes, swimming has always been about so much more than learning a life-saving skill. It is about helping children develop a love for movement, fitness and healthy living that can last a lifetime.

This past weekend, the owner of our amazing swim school, Kate Wood had the incredible privilege of representing South Africa at the inaugural Deadly Dozen World Championships at Crystal Palace in London, competing on the world stage alongside athletes from more than 60 countries.

Qualifying for a World Championship and having the opportunity to wear the South African colours was an incredibly proud achievement! 🇿🇦

For many children, swimming is one of their first introductions to sport and physical activity. At Little Fishes, the goal is not only to teach children to swim safely but also to encourage a positive relationship with movement that they can carry with them throughout their lives.

Her journey is a reminder that the lessons children learn through swimming: discipline, confidence, perseverance and a love of movement which can continue to shape their lives long after they leave the pool.

Maybe they thought their child was too young,
Maybe they worried they would be nervous,
Maybe life simply got busy.

Water confidence doesn’t happen overnight. It is built slowly as it is one lesson, one skill and one little victory at a time.

If you could go back to your child’s very first swimming lesson, you would tell yourself this:

It is okay if they are nervous
It is okay if progress feels slow
And it is okay if their journey looks different to everyone else’s

Because one day, they will put their face underwater, float, jump in and shout “WATCH ME!” and you will realise those tiny milestones were the big moments all along! 🐳

Seeing a little swimmer take the skills they have learnt at Little Fishes and confidently use them on holiday is the biggest reminder that what we teach really does stick.

It is not just swimming
It is the confidence
It is the independence
It is the water safety
It is giving our swimmers skills they can carry with them wherever life takes them 🐳

Knowing that our lessons are still with them even when they are miles away on holiday… that is what makes it all worth it! 🥹💙
