The Tiger Titans are a development cricket club amongst the youth of the impoverished Nolukhanyo Township in Bathurst, Eastern Cape. The club was founded in December 2007 by then 14-year-old St. Andrew's pupil, Ross McCreath, in an effort to keep the youth busy during the holidays. The club has grown to 100 members between the ages of 6 and 22 and now functions throughout the year. The TTCC is run
by coaches Ross McCreath, Duzi Mkalipi (currently completing his level 2 coaching course), mentor Gladman Xali and club manager Anne McCreath (aka. Practices are held 4 times a week, where players determinedly train from 2 o’clock in the afternoon to as late as 7 o’clock in the evening. Despite the club’s members having limited facilities and being exposed to the various socio-economic problems which afflict their community, the club has managed to maintain a consistent success rate (one of its most notable wins being over St. Andrew's College just several months after its formation) and produce two Eastern Provincial players. The Tiger Titan’s endeavors clear the boundary of the cricket field. Currently, we proudly have 33 boys enrolled in The President’s Award, in which 28 have attained their bronze level. Thirty boys have completed their Level 1 First Aid courses, and 6 have passed their EP Level 1 coaching courses. The Tiger Titans have been recognised locally and internationally, and have been featured on Carte Blanche, SABC News, and several other publications. In 2008 the TTs were runner's up in the Murray and Robert's Jack Cheetham Award. Ross was invited by HRH Prince Phillip to be the main speaker at a World Fellowship gala dinner at Lords Cricket Ground. In 2010 he was recognised by the Peter Cruddas Foundation as one of ten International Social Innovators and the TTs were named winners of the M&R Jack Cheetham Award. The Tiger Titans are very grateful for the support it receives: from the wider community, from the press and from donations and sponsors. These all play an important role in keeping the club sustainable. The Tiger Titans' aim is to uplift the community through sport and youth empowerment, living by the ethos “noba kunzima kanagakanini thina siza kuqhubekeka sibheka” (difficulties will not dismay us).
