Excessive sitting may be the new normal during lockdown for kids; especially with a phone, iPad or television to keep them company. Kids aged 3 – 5 should be physically active for 3 hours or more per day. Children and Teenagers should exercise for at least an hour a day.
Here are some easy ways to incorporate physical activity into your kid’s routine:
1. Dancing: Set up a playlist, put some Christmas lights up in the living room & challenge your kids to a dance-off. This is a fun interactive way to not only get yourself and the kids active but to spend some good quality time with them.
2. Meld academics and aerobics: Some examples include
a. If they are learning about shapes; let them show you the shape they learnt outside by running in the form of a shape.
b. For every 10 questions your kid answers they must do 10 squats or any other bodyweight movements. Body weight training is great for kids & has huge benefits for their metabolic and mental health.
3. Create an obstacle course outside on the grass or on rainy days inside the house. This is a fun way to get your kids crawling, running, jumping, hopping, and moving in general. Make sure they know how to clean up the mess afterwards 😅
