More pleasure, more money, more love, and more material possessions don't lead to more happiness.
For decades, greedy corporations and unscrupulous marketers have been brainwashing us into believing that our happiness lies in having more...
But that's just not true.
More pleasure doesn't lead to increased happiness or satisfaction. In fact, the more pleasure you get, the more you will need in the future to continue making you "happy".
Psychologists call this hedonic adaptation. Your brain adapts to high-pleasure experiences, so you'll need more each time to get the same effect...just like the co***ne addict needs progressively more and more co***ne to get high.
Seeking more and more of a "pleasure high" often leads to depression because it wears out the pleasure centres in the brain.
You see this phenomenon repeatedly in professional athletes and movie stars who pursue lives of pleasure, giving in to every desire, only to eventually commit su***de to escape their unhappiness or die from a drug overdose in their self-destructive pursuit of pleasure.
The truth is that happiness cannot be found in the material world or in the endless pursuit of pleasure. It can only be found through one's connection to Allah SWT.
"Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest."
- Quran 13: 28
