When looking for a travel team here's a few things to look for:
1. Who are the coaches on staff? Where did the play. Make sure each coach played at the Junior College level or above.
2. Ask how many teams they manage? Do they manage 6-10
Teams? Or is this their only team? Not a deal breaker if he manages multiple teams but it is something to consider during your decision making process.
3. How many practices a week? This is a very important question but not a deal breaker because the current culture in travel baseball is that teams practice very little. I have friends that are parents of travel ballers that were paying in excess of $225 just in training fees and the team only practices 1-2 times a month. Unfortunately this is very typical. Organizations running teams as a means to make a living will charge heavy on dues and give you very little. So if you can find a team that has a coach at the helm that is committed to 1-practice a week be satisfied because that is more than most
organizations offer.
4. Ask for an honest assessment on your child. If your coach can't be honest about your child's skill level be very aware. A coach that can be straight up about playing time and current skill level is a solid coach.
5. Speak to the current parents. Go and introduce yourself to others. Parents have ALOT to say😂😂😂. So listen to some of the parents.
At the end of the day, your kid controls his destiny. The truth is that if your kid works hard and can play, the playing time will be there.
