Easter 2026 Regatta Report
Made enough of a recover on my injured elbow to be cleared to race in the last regatta of the season. it was great to head away with the full crew Craig Harper Julia Riding and Toby Price.
The weather was forecast to be pretty average and ended up better than expected. The Lake Kaniere Powerboat Club are well used to this and took it all in there stride running a great regatta.
We had a few engine gremlins over the weekend that we didn't manage to solve until Sunday morning, damn intermittent electrical issues :(
Even with our problem we ran in 2x heats of the South Island Unlimited Unrestricted Championship and come home first in both, which probably says more for some other bad luck in the field than out outright pace but we can only race what's in front of us.
Sunday after finding and replacing a dodgy coil we had limited fuel left (lots of load wheel runs ate up plenty). so we limited ourselves to a test and committed to filling up a spot in the King of the Lake (Kaniere Electric Cup). the start was a bit average after I tried staying back from the start boat to stop the Hydro's running through and getting a jump. That didn't work for us so it was down to chasing... Herb did exactly what he should and ran in close on each entry buoy turning the corner into an unpredictable mess. It wasn't worth risking a barrel roll so we just ran safe to the end keeping Shane out (not as easy as it sounds) to run 2nd.
Happy to put the boat in the shed with only a small list of winter jobs.
Thanks for all the help form Craig, Julia and Toby.
And a big thanks to our sponsors that kept supporting through my injury.

Happy New Year to everyone.
Time for a quick update on how things are looking for 2026 for the team.
Unfortunately it will be pretty quite for a few months at least.. An Ice Hockey injury prior to Christmas ended with surgery to repair a torn triceps tendon. So the boat will need to stay in the shed.
We will continue to work through some engine refurbishment that was already planned and work hard on the driver rehab to get back out later in the season.
Thanks to my wife Julia who has had to take on some extra chauffer work while I cant drive.
Also would like to pass on my appreciation of our great sponsors
