I set myself the challenge of running 100 miles for Tourettes Action and I did it in just over 3 weeks. My little legs are tired now. My son was diagnosed with mild Tourette’s Syndrome in 2022 and had 40 motor tics and 4 vocal tics. (He didn’t shout out words, this is only about 10% of people) but he was sometimes in pain. We were told a third stay the same, a third get better and a third get worse and luckily he now only has the odd motor tic which doesn’t bother him and isn’t life impacting. But I do feel for everyone who has this, especially the kids and their families - so this is for them. I’m doing the challenge and have set myself to run 100 miles in 15th May-15th June and although it’s tough, it’s not as tough as what others with this go through. I WILL complete this so if you can donate a few quid that would be awesome. ❤️❤️❤️

Today I had a coffee with my good friend Simone who also happens to be a chartered counselling psychologist. We discussed how exercising 3 times a week can be just as effective as taking a low dose antidepressant for mild to moderate depression and that a 2024 study of 14,000 participants found that walking, jogging, strength training and yoga were effective treatments. (any change to prescribed medications should be done in consultation with your GP)
Exercise builds self-efficiency - the feeling that you have power over your own mood.

Some mums (and dads) may need to hear this today. Please be kind to yourself and not compare yourself to others. We are all winging it. If you’ve ever listened to a bit of a smug mum tell you all about little Tarquin playing cello, speaking Latin and loving extra maths while you’re telling your kids to not call each other k**b cheese then you’re not alone. The one-upmanship I’ve witnessed over the years is crazy. Let’s take the small wins. I am lucky to have met some great women along the way. Ones that aren’t afraid to admit that parenting can be a bloody hard and thankless task at times (some may have been swigging w**e wearing odd socks and forgetting to put on a bra - you know who you are) but we should to be kind to ourselves, ask for help if we need it, stick together and not beat ourselves up on a daily basis about mum guilt(like playing Dobble tonight with my ten year old who found it funny I called something ‘the fu***ng blue thing’ which she now does too.)
The moral of the story is I suppose, you do you. Be kind, be helpful , don’t judge, don’t gloat and don’t be a t**t.
